So my two year old somehow got a hold of a small bottle of clorox clean up and managed to spill it on my tower, which has a fan and holes on the top. I shut it off asap and let it dry. Now all it is doing is turning on, spinning up the cpu fan, then shutting off over and over again. It's not even giving out beep codes. Can I save it at all?
 
You can probably save most of it, just a matter of isolating the problem part & fixing that component.

First thing to do: strip it down to just necessary parts for boot. CPU on mobo, 1 stick RAM, GPU, PSU plugged in, nothing else. Try to boot and see what happens.
 
Chlorine bleach is highly corrosive and needs to be cleaned off your parts!

1. Remove the parts that were contacted.
2. Flush them very well with DISTILLED WATER.
3. Allow them to dry thoroughly.
4. Reinstall them and boot up.
 
I wish I read your post last night, blain. I took out the ram and the GPU and started it back up. It did the same thing as last time, as soon as the cpu fan starts up it shuts off and starts up a second later. I'm going to try to clean them off, hopefully its not too late.
 
Err, how does a 2-year-old get a hold of something containing bleach?!?!?!? That's more troubling that what happened to your computer, TBH.
 
Yeah I figured that would come up. He got into the cabinet beneath my sink where i keep all my cleaning stuff despite the child safety latches on them. I pulled him out of there and shut the door, but I guess he must have knocked out the bottle and i didn't notice. Next thing i know I look up and see my monitor displaying garbage.
 
About a week before my kid turned 2, he was banging a cabinet door in the kitchen that had a safety latch...open an inch, slam, open an inch, slam. Just as I was about to tell him to stop, he stopped.

He looked at it quizzically, then pushed down on the latch and opened the door. The expression on his face was of surprise. So he closes the door, then opens and unlatches it again.

Then he slowly turned to look at me, with the biggest shit-eating grin you ever saw from a toddler.

Use an old toothbrush to lightly scrub (with DISTILLED WATER), down in the card slots and connection sockets.
Basically, scrub any connecting surfaces that may have been contaminated by the bleach.
