Is my CDROM the problem?

I just waited for 50 minutes for MOHAA:Spearhead to install. Every game I install takes forever. I have a 40X CD, XP1700 on a ECS K7S5A. Everything works fine with playing audio CD's, etc. but this game installing is driving me crazy. What could be the cause of this?

50 minutes? MAybve.

I have a crabby 56k I/O Magic CDRom I've RMA'd like three times and the only reason I don't keep RMAing Is I hate to pay that stupid shipping fee.

It reads Cds when it wants to and sounds like a vaccumm.....

It took me (on that cdrom) an hour to Install Pharaoh (if anyone here played that)

My other guess is that there is protection on the disc and your pc is trying to read that or something.

Is DMA enabled for that drive? Go into your Device Manager and go into the Properties for your CD-ROM drive. Make sure the "DMA" box is checked and apply the settings. If it wasn't checked before, it'll ask for a reboot when you apply the settings.

That's the only thing I can really think of. If that doesn't help it's probably RMA or return-to-store time.

DMA is checked. I'm not sure it's the drive because I get the same thing trying to install from my Lite-on CDRW (DMA is also checked). I've had this drive for about 3 years and it used to install games fine. I can't be sure but I think this problem is happening since I installed the K7S5A about a year ago. Could that have anything to do with it?
