I pretty much have my build all figured out now. THANKS ANAND :thumbsup:

So now, I am building a setup for my wife. Here is what I chose....

1) Thermaltake LANBOX Lite
2) AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz
3) G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB)
4) Western Digital 500 GIG
5) CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX
6) GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H
7) Radeon HD 3870

As for the other hardware required, it is already decided on for this build. So no need to list it. I chose a Micro-ATX board because she just loves the Thermaltake LANBOX.

Will this setup be compatible and stable in your opinion?

For her, this will be a difference like night to day in performance. Right now she is running....

Radeon 9600
512mb Corsair
AMD 1.2GHZ

 
Why not get an mATX intel chipset and the E2200, instead of the Athlon. Athlon is hard to recommend at the moment given the performance of the core 2 lineup.
 
There's nothing wrong with a x2 5000+ vs a e2200. And I think that AMD's igp can be 'crossfired' with the AMD card as well for a little extra boost. How much you paying for the HD3870?
 
780G board is a great choice, the IGP is more than enough for most tasks and saves you the heat, power usage and trouble of using an add-in card.

I would suggest going for the 4850e as the CPU choice. It runs cooler, uses less power and is quite powerful @ 2.5ghz stock. I have one on a 780G board and it's great. Any wife should be happy with that setup.
 
Well, the HD 3870 I got on a excellent deal from a friend here in town. He was short $60 for his new gpu, so he sold it to me for that. I thought it was a great deal. :thumbsup:

Hmm, good suggestion. I will check out some reviews if I can find them. That sounds tempting.
 
Does anyone know where I can find benchmarks for the 4850e ? All of the ones that I am finding does not have the proper scores. They are tested with the 780g and a 3450.

I need individual benches.

Edit: Nevermind. I have decided to stay with the 5000+.
