Is my A2 1080i or 720p?

So I'm in CC yesterday picking up a few HD-DVDs, and this salesman walks up and asks if I have an HD-DVD player.

Me: Umm, yea. That's why I'm buying these movies.
Him: What kind?
Me: Toshiba A2
Him: What resolution is your TV?
Me: 1080p
Him: You know the A2's only 720 right?
Me: No, the box says 1080i.
Him: Well, 1080i IS 720p.
Me: 😕
Him: We have a nice player for $399 that's 1080p.
Me: 😕😕
Me: I paid $130 for mine so I'll go ahead and keep it thanks.

So is he just another retarded salesman, or is he right? I thought my TV would deinterlace the signal into 1080p?

I like how they just think by throwing out an offer of $400 for a HD DVD player is going to get your attention.

This is one of the reasons I love to go into retail stores with hours of research behind me. Putting those lame floor people (and not all are this way) is a wonderful feeling.

He is a retarded salesman, plain and simple. That's Circuit Shitty for ya.

Good, that's kinda what I figured. I understand the guy wants to sell players, but he should at least sort of know what he's talking about.

STOP RIGHT NOW.

Your TV will deinterlace the signal (1080i) and you will get 1080p on your TV.

What a fvcking moron. I would have promptly schooled him on how deinterlacing works (as he has no clue on what he's talking about). And then told him my A2 will do just fine for 1080p. Now if he said, 1080i=1080p on the HD-A2, then he would be correct.

I think I might have to take a little trip to CC and look through some HD-DVD movies to lure in some unsuspecting moronic sales guy. 🙂

Is there any way we can get this plastered on every tech store front and stickied at the top of this forum. If I had a nickel for everytime I've heard someone regurgitating misconceptions about this, I'd have enough for another 50" HDTV...
