Is mushkin ram worth the extra $20?

Hey all,

Im looking to get some new ram. Mushkin is selling 256mb (2x128) rev2 ram for $149 shipped, kdcomputers is selling Mosel Vitelic 256mb for $118(2x128@$59) plus $13 shipping for a total of $131.

so i am wondering if anyone knows if there is any difference between the mushkin rev2 and the Mosel Vitelic that kdcomputers is selling. and if so is it worth the extra $18 for the mushkin?

Oh, one more thing....im wondering if 384mb would be better than 256mb of ram running WinME.

Mushkin is supposedly the highest quality ram you can get, from what I hear, i dont own any myself. I have crucial ram, 2x 256 cas2 sticks, they work fine with my tbird.

I have 3 sticks of Mushkin Cas2 rev2. Awesome ram. It runs everything I give it.
The biggest reason to pay the extra is warranty though. You call Mushkin they day your memory goes bad (God forbid it happens) and I kid you not, they will send a replacement out to you FedEx that day. Awesome customer service.
I have bought serveral gigs worth of ram from them over the past few years.

I always buy generic, cheapest RAM since I don't overclock, but if I was to push the FSB, I would get what most of these 'professional' overclockers get which seems to be the Mushkin.

Also, it's not just the memory chips that is important. The PCB layout is important as well... I use 3rd party Micron RAM and I can't get it to run at speeds that Crucial's RAM can run, and they use the same chips...

There is no substitute for good RAM, especially when only a few bucks is the difference (in the scheme of $1000+ systems). Mushkin and Crucial are the only two places I buy RAM, and usually I go with crucial, just becaus of the good experiences I'v had with them (I haven't had any bad experiences with Mushkin though). I'm going to be buying 256MB of PC2100 in a week or two, and I think I just might go Mushkin this time.

If you don't overclock, Crucial $89 is better deal.
you almost can buy 2, that become 512M, even better than 384.

Crucial will have ddr2100 soon, should be much cheaper than Mushkin's.

Its probally very similar memory....I'll say why in a second..

I think it breaks down to this, with Mushkin, you'll be getting 5 star customer support, hell they have email me twice and called once asking me if my rev3 is working well. And a die hard gaurentee. But if money is tight, i see no reason not to buy the KD stuff

And to what i was getting to about "similar" memory..I walked into KD's store, which is located close to my house. After picking up my p/s and Mobo, the first thing they guy asked me was that if i ever heard of a memory company called "Mushkin" and started singing their praises. Well i had already picked up my rev3 from mushkin. SO it was a no sale. But he made it sound that he was selling either similar or just plain reselling mushkin memory. SO he very well could be a reseller. Again, this is all speculation on my part.

And i doubt you will see any difference between 384 and 256 in ME, but you notice a diff in 2k if you ever switch over

They have a customer for life. Excellent CS and highest quality components chips and PCB. I have never had a bad DIMMS yet.

Mushkin has the best service & support I've found on the 'Net .. bar none.

If you ever use them, you'll be spoiled for life.

They have budget/basic RAM for those on a tight budget.

I use their rev 1.5 & rev2 stuff.

REV3 is guaranteed to run 2-2-2 @ 150MHz
REV2 is rated 2-2-2 @ 133MHz

you don't even need muskin
just get a infineon with 6 layer pcb board
it will do good

most everyone here has the right ticket... mushkin makes super high-quality ram and has the support and service to the products up... i myself have 2 sticks of rev 2 and the performance is awesome...
