Is moving across the country difficult?

For starters it can get very cold around here and I really want to move across the country in the near future. Is it a hard change moving 2200 miles away from your family and old friends? Can anybody say from experience?
edit: I forgot to mention the job opportunity. It might cost more to live there, but they're offering a lot more money.

Yes. I wouldn't make the move just for the weather, though. On the plus side, the weather's nice (people seem to care about that more than it's worth), and the high cost of living is generally offset by more well compensated employment opportunity.

I moved from Florida to Wisconsin 5 years ago (definitely didn't do it for the weather) and it was hard at first. I go home once a year to visit and that's good enough for me. I love my family but I didn't realize how much they controlled my life until I moved away. I now have some great new friends in Wisconsin and still keep in touch with my family and old friends in Florida. I don't recommend moving because of the weather unless its for health reasons.

Without a job and determination of the cost of living/housing, be cautious.

Fuel costs are much higher.

California is a large state with a varitey of differnet climates, living conditions, etc

I moved from DC to Seattle a few years ago. I saved money and had a place to stay while i found an apartment though. Three years later and doing fine.

I moved from North Carolina to Kansas a few months ago

sucks, but I think thats mostly due to my being in Kansas.

I dont miss my family too much, they were *always* around and its nice to have them not be sometimes, but we talk often.

Moving across country is difficult. My wife and I moved from California to Pennsylvania about four years ago. It was a total pain in the butt. We loaded/unloaded everything ourselves...and towed our car behind the moving truck.

And yes... moving away from family and friends was hard... very hard. But I only have a year of grad school left then we are moving back west, hopefully to CA again.

Not really, I moved from Virginia to Cali last summer

I have been to cali several times but had never been to the area I live now, newport beach. I got my apartment online.

But yes, I miss my family and friends a lot. I also miss the rain, greenery, snow and wildlife in Virginia.

But the weather here is really nice, my electric bill is like $30 a month, temps are 50-70 year round.

i moved from Texas to Pennsylvania last July. moving wasn't too bad... we rented a uhaul and towed the car. putting the furniture and boxes was super demanding but other than that it was just a long drive. i miss not being close to my family but i talk to them every day so it's not too bad. i moved up north due to a job but i'll probably eventually end up in Texas again. though i wouldn't mind traveling the world either.

I moved from Northern CA to San Diego and it has been great so far!

My family has made 2 R/T trips (Ca/NV) plus 2 additional circuits for myself and the wife.

As long as I had a location to aim for, there was not a problem. The family moves were handled by professional, the rest was, pack up the car and go.

Yes, it sucks. I do not have any family members within 1000 miles at the moment.
