Is MotoX Pure still the best option for most people?

Nexus 6P on sale right now for $347 IMO is a better value- more expensive but you get a lot more phone and a longer lifespan with Moto getting increasingly worse with updates. S810 vs. S808, regular updates, fingerprint scanner, better camera, better build quality, gorilla glass 4 vs 3, USB-C.

There's a bunch of brand new flagship-class devices out there for $400, the OnePlus3, ZTE Axon 7, and Alacatel Idol 4S. There's no need to go with a year-old device like the Moto X or Nexus 6p just to save money.

Silly comment. For many people, they'd much rather spend $250 instead of $400. It's called "economics". Any other options in the $250-$300 range?

Nexus 5x, GX8, Nexbit Robin off the top of my head.

My problem with recommending any Moto right now is all of a sudden they have gotten VERY hostile about providing updates:

The Moto we knew is dead and buried, those are just Lenovo phones with a different branding.

I have been pretty unimpressed with the Moto E. I swear they must have intentionally gimped it compared to the G, which has the same processor.

Moto G4 is "GoodEnough" for $199 and G4 Plus (if you want fingerprint scanner and more storage) for $299 for 64gb.

I sure hate to hear that. I can't say that I am surprised. When I initially heard that Lenovo had bought Moto I knew it was only a matter of time before they screwed up a good thing!

Yup and its too bad, as it looks like the new Motos finally did modular attachments correctly.

Just can't recommend them anymore. That first Moto X was a mirage.

Project Fi at fi.google.com

Nexus 5X for $199

Just follow the links on the site. When you click sign up the first thing it does is it takes you to the coverage map to see if it's available in your area before you buy anything.

My moto x pure has been garbage from the day i got it. I've had it for 4 months. It freezes, slows down, gets hot, acts strangely. The only good thing about it is that it charges super fast. I would never buy one again and I'd recommend no one buy it. I would describe my use of the phone as light. Will never buy another Lenovo(moto) product. Their laptops are crap too. I set them up in my job and we order tons of them. 1+ out of 10 is always DOA or has an issue.

One of my last phones, a Galaxy S3 lasted 4.5 years. I feel like this one is gonna give out before I can buy the new nexus.
If you have had a different experience, great. But I would call it the worst phone Ive ever owned.

Actually, I am starting to think I did get a lemon cuz so many other people like the phone. But also, it's kinda heavy, the curved back makes it hard to place on certain surfaces, it's oblong but the buttons are centered on the right and the sheer weight of the phone when picking it up or out of my pocket sometimes activate the volume or sleep/power button against my hand unintentionally. I dunno. Im just not into it. But I can live with it till something more interesting comes along. I would just say assuming you aren't gonna get a lemon, at least pick one up and hold it before deciding to buy. I just frequently find myself wishing I got a 6p cuz I was deciding between the two. But at the time the 6p was 150$ more. Fiddlesticks lol.

Well, this thread's been disappointing for me. I need a new unlocked phone and Best Buy has the 32gig Moto X Pure for $240. I'm not a poweruser, and the $400 phones like the 6P and Oneplus3 are out of reach. Think it would still be worth it?

You could go even cheaper and get a new Nexus 5 on ebay for a little over $100. Last generations SoCs (808, 810) have a really bad reputation for overheating and very marginal gains compared to the 800/801.

If you really want to be in the $200-300 range I would get a Note 4, at least then you get that amazing OLED display.
