I meant in absolute terms, not relative.
If you're talking relative, then the 1996 Startac was probably the best phone ever.

Funny thing is though, it's the AMOLED screened phones that usually do well in sunlight readability tests like GSMARENA's.

Modern SAMOLEDs are great in daylight but didn't get there until about 2 years ago. The Note 2 had a terrible screen for daylight, the Note 3 became good enough.

Current S6/Note 5 screens are great in daylight.

---------------

For me the camera is what takes this phone out of any conversation of best phone. It's fine but low light isn't great compared to the best these days.

Considering the price of the 5X and 6P and the current selling price of phones like the G4, not having a great low light camera immediately takes you out of the running.

This is why it's funny when people clamor that Apple (and HTC, and...) should have gone OLED years ago. Ever try to use a GS3's screen on a bright spring day? Yeah. There's a difference between having cutting-edge tech for its own sake and waiting until it's genuinely ready for prime time.

We're just getting to the point where AMOLED's weaknesses have not only disappeared, but the software can take advantage of its strengths (such as Ambient Display and Active Display on Nexus and Moto X phones). It's also not as pricey, either. I could see it thriving outside of Samsung soon, although Apple reportedly isn't looking at OLED outside of the Watch until 2018 (basically, the iPhone 8 period).

Moto X 2015? Best phone? Nope. Great phone though, and if I had $550 all at once to spend on a phone, that would be it. 64gb and leather back.

For me, overall, I think the original Galaxy S Vibrant was the best Android phone I owned, though the Note II comes close. The S had a killer SoC, a killer screen and was completely unlocked in every way to do whatever I wanted to it, and you couldn't really brick it.

Nokia's were there since 2010 with the ClearBlack Display tech (multiple polarizer's) that work on both AMOLED and LCD. Add to that smooth auto brightness including daylight brightness/contrast boost by 2012 at the latest.

Granted this stuff was probably all patented to hell and back. Works better than anything else I've seen though - high noon in the middle of summer and pull out a 92x series phone and it just doesn't matter. I usually only notice when I realize no one else can see their phones or are hunched over shading them, etc.

Best ever? The first one I bought for the wife in @ 1993-94 I think.... A Motorola big flip phone.

She was visiting a friend at the hospital when someone broke into her car and stole it....

not a chance

biggest flaws
form factor is much too large
LCD screen is supbar.

I do enjoy the fast charging though.
Form factor is subjective, a lot of people prefer a bigger phone. It also has a great selection screen ratio so the screen is really large for its form factor.

LCD is a different story

OP should be ignored. As was said multiple times in their other garbage thread.

Ah, t rue, I remember ClearBlack... it's just a shame that the phones were hobbled by other factors (the limited Windows Phone and Symbian ecosystems, behind-the-curve performance in some respects). I suppose the argument is more that AMOLED is finally good enough for daylight conditions without requiring special technology to make it work.

This. Any phone with a non replaceable battery is a DISPOSABLE phone with a year long lifetime and cannot possibly be a candidate for best phone evar

Funny, my iPhone 6 still has healthy battery life after 15 months, and previous iPhones lasted two years without issues (in fact, I know a person still using my old iPhone 5).

I'm sure some people run out their batteries that quickly, but don't be suckered into that religious fervor over phones 'needing' removable everything. I'd rather have a sealed-in battery that lasts all day than a removable pack that has to be swapped out on a regular basis.

You can replace any phone battery.
Just takes one hour of your time and $20.

No.

After having used numerous android devices over the years, I always always always come away unimpressed. The hardware is good but the software sucks. Android is the worst of the mobile operating systems and is only saved by the App Store and by being free to manufacturers. Otherwise it all around underperforms.
