They're owned by Quicken now, and they are as safe as any of the normal online banking that you do.

I used to use it more, but it is a pretty useful service.

The fiancee uses it. I'm sure it's pretty safe. Shrug.

That answer depends entirely on the ethics of the company storing your personal information.

That answer depends entirely on the ethics and security skills of the company storing your personal information.

You should assume that there is a risk of anything you post to mint.com being stolen at some point through a security breach. Excepting that minor caveat it's perfectly safe.

It's safe until someone hacks their server and takes all your CC# and log-in information. I'm not really a big fan on how they email you your credit card balances either. I haven't heard them running into any problems yet.

I would expect it is as safe as your own bank's app. Although I would never use Mint to store my logins for all my accounts. Even if they somehow were to be absolutely hack-proof, there is probably more than one person in that company who knows how to get at the data. And I'm not betting all my account data that none of them can be compromised ever. Same reason I don't use Quicken online to consolidate all my information.

You are far more likely to have your information stolen by something that gets on to your computer than someone getting into mint. They use security equivalent to what your bank uses.

Also, if you don't like getting emails about your credit card balances you can turn them off. I personally don't have a problem with it, what is somebody going to do with that sort of information anyways?

It's no different than Quicken.

You give Quicken access to your bank accounts.

It's probably even more safe since it just lets you see your money, not actually do anything with it.

Banks have been hacked, the point is there's no real way to quantify how 'safe' their service is. If you want to use it and all of it's great features it comes with a risk.

I personally just didn't like getting those emails, it opens up another potential way of someone getting at your personal information through a less secure source, email. I don't know what someone may be able to do with the information, but it's a starting point for building a profile on you.

I never had a problem using Mint, but it can't reconcile a lot of my CC & bank info so it was useless to me. I'm still open to a security risk because I use each of my accounts online so there is no 100% secure way to do this :)

I found that Mint isn't all that useful to me, since a few of my financial accounts (like the weird little mortgage broker that my mortgage was transferred to) still aren't accessible online. It ends up giving an inaccurate picture of my finances.

One thing about mint is that it picks up all of my store credit cards much better than quicken

Of course, since they don't store or even require your CC#s, that might be a bit tough.

a disgruntled employee who foresees his layoff could do some harm with your sensitive data one day I guess..
