Is milk basic?

I do believe that milk is basic. Been a while, that I am pretty sure. As for other things...i dont really know. Cream?

if i remember correctly from my grade 10 science class....i though my teacher said that milk was actually an acid on the pH scale....😕

You remember correctly. Milk is 6.8...slightly acidic Water is 7. Basic PH tutorial

Milk is acidic, but slightly. Mostly it's the presence of Lactose, which forms Lactic Acid as it breaks down. (Refridgeration slows that effect however)

By the way, Lactic Acid in raw form smells like vomit, which is why baby puke is so foul. 😛

Yeah, water is neutral. It's the basis for the entire pH scale, after all.

Upon further consideration I believe fresh milk is slightly basic, whereas what you normally drink is slightly acidic or close. Actually I seem to remember that once it gets acidic past a certain point it starts tasting pretty nasty because of all the Lactic Acid.
