Was thinking about getting a Xbox but am worried they may drop it like Sega did DC. What are the US sales record for the Xbox anyway? I know they got the money to keep it alive but are they willing to sink alot into it is the question? One last thing does the system seem reliable have there been any known issues with some of them?

Whats everyones opinion on it?

They have $40 billion in the bank. They don't care about making money with the XBox. They can buy the entire airlines industry 6 times over.

What they care about is getting part of the market share so when XBox 2 comes out they can crush the opposition.

Therefore, they are in it for the long run. Don't worry.

Yeah but would they try to release the Xbox 2 asap and not even give the Xbox a chance to become #1?

They are far from being number 1 with XBOX.

They still have much to release w/ Xbox, so all should be  ; As for being #1, that will never happen as long as Sony makes PlayStations :)

Is there enough good games out for Xbox to make it worth a purchace? I ain't been keeping up with it. I was gonna get a PS2 but my friend just bought one and I can basicly play it about whenever I want to. When is online gaming due or is it here already?

If your friend got a PS2, get a XBox so you can have the best of both worlds. There are enough good games out now to engage you untill more good games come out.

Halo
DOA3
Tony Hawk 3 (4 out yet? I think it is close)
Rallisport Challenge
World Series Baseball
NFL 2k2
Hunter: The Reckoning
NBA 2k2
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
NHL Hits 20-02
Jet Set Future Radio
Amped
Oddworld
FIFA World Cup Soccer

Naturally, not all of these will appeal to you (perhaps you don't like Socce,Or RPG's), but all these are quality titles as long as you like the Genre.

There are a TON of good games coming out over the summer and on into winter.

Hope that helps.

As for being #1, that will never happen as long as Netscape makes Navigator. ;)

Didn't they throw the towel in on Ultimate TV? ;)

Next console I'm going to buy will be an X-Box.

I bought a GameCube last week and I love it to death. It's all about the games. I bought 3 when I bought the console and have plans to buy at least 3 more from current releases. I have about 5 more I plan to buy from upcoming games. On top of that, most of these games are playable as a family, which is a big plus for me.

X-Box got some cool games (that I want to buy and play)and more will come out soon. I'll end up using the X-Box for Halo and some single-player games and use it as a DVD player also. I'll also get the wheel controller to play racing games on it.

PS2 didn't impress me much so I'll pass.

I heard MS aint doing good in Japan or where ever. Would they drop it for this reason alone or continue to support it? Think they will sink alot of money into it not knowing how if they will just lose it?

BTW all the games thats showed at E3 is that all thats due this year or some of the ones?

IMHO, Try to look at the types of games you like/love to play and see which system suits your tastes the best.

Here is my opinion, coming from a LONG time gamer, and someone who knows his stuff when it comes to console games. Here is the skinny on the XBOX. First off, it's $200, a hell of a deal for what all you get. A current installed game base of atleast 100+ (not a known fact by be, more of a guess, but I'd bet my ass it was right) is not shabby at all, considering it's only been out for 6-7 months. A lot of these games are rush jobs, but there are some decent ones out there. Here is some info from the latest EGM magazine:

200 - Number of XBOX games coming out this holiday season
10 - Approximate number of online XBOX games that'll hit this year
50 - Number of online XBOX games available by the end of next year

Also, at the recent E3 event, Microsoft announced a "$2 billion commitment to support the platform and its blooming online network for the next five years."

And as datalink7 posted: "What they care about is getting part of the market share so when XBox 2 comes out they can crush the opposition. Therefore, they are in it for the long run. Don't worry." He is exactly right.

Some of the incredible looking games coming out this holiday season:

Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Ninja Gaiden
Project Ego

There's many more that I don't feel like posting screenies to. Morrowind (out right now), Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller (out now or soon), Dead to Rights, Stars Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (star wars RPG), Sega GT 2002, and Robotech: Battlecry.

As for the online strategies outlined by Microsoft and Sony (we'll leave Nintendo out of the online discussion for all intensive purposes), it boils down to what you want. First difference, Microsoft is Broadband ONLY, as Sony is either broadband or dial-up, with a leaning more towards broadband. So if you don't have cable or DSL, you can't play with Microsoft. Second difference is the subscription service Microsoft is REQUIRING you to have if you want to play ANY online game with the XBOX. Starting around October or November, to start, they charge $50 for signing up, which includes ONE user ID for ALL games you'll play, and a headset for voice communication. This $50 also includes a full year of service. After the said year is up, you pay per month.

Sony, on the other hand, is letting developers handle their own online components, meaning they can support both broadband and dialup with their game, or they can decide to do broadband only. They also have the option of charging their own monthly subscription to play, similar to MMORPG's on the PC. Both ideas are good, and again, boils down to your tastes and wallet.

Hope this is useful to some people. EDIT: Spelling errors.

MS will put everything they can into to it. They know they cannot catch up in sales for xbox 1 but they can influence decisions for the next one. They want to launch xbox 2 around the same time as ps3 and want people to say "damn, look at what they did with xbox 1, imagine what they will do with 2."

the psx2 is garbage hardware wise, and the xbox is outselling the gamecube right now, since there arent that many games on the cube yet. xbox is gonna do fine, this is version 1.0 , microsoft should own the industry by xbox3.

i just bought a gamecube btw, really waiting for zelda and metroid.

Rumors say X-Box 2 is due 2006 while PS2 is due 2004 or 2005.

Either way, waiting for X-Box 2 is pretty dumb because you'll be waiting at least 2 years before X-Box 2 comes out.

gosh.. remember the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System and when we didn't have to worry about having to spend $$$ on new systems and just focus on all the great games to play?? Where have those days gone?
