Rereading your inital post... regarding patents, if MS does the research and comes up with items to patent, why wouldn't they get the patent? Are you saying they should spend the $$ on research and let someone else get the patent because they have too many already?

Whan did MS patent an idea they had? Reverse engineer someone else's software and bankrupt them with legal fees when they complain, yes. Wonder why they can't debug their operating systems, they did not write them! Win7 is what 95 was supposed to be.

Microsoft was the product of the stupidity of Gary Kildall (and IBM, among others).

There is a lot of road kill along that highway.

If anyting MS has been almost destroyed by the state. They fought lawsuit after lawsuit and lost millions upon millions of dollars. Look at what they did, pretty much the same as Google and Apple are doing now. Soon it'll be there turn to fight Uncle Sam which in the end is a losing battle.
I know, a little off topic.. Sorry..

You guys saying this shit can't be fucking serious. Microsoft ALREADY BEAT THE GOVERNMENT IN THEIR OWN COURT ROOMS. Which says leaps and bounds about our judicial system compared to that of what the EU used to squeeze money out of MS.

Microsoft fought legitimate federal charges of anti-trust violations and escaped time and again with meaningless Consent Decrees and no fines. They continue to exploit an effective monopoly on operating systems and office suites and remain the second most valuable technology corporation in the world.

So much for "almost destroyed by the state".
