Its an improvement over most of the past 1's (excluding 6.4), but you should have MPC ready just for the DVD's.

Media Player Classic, or better known as Windows Media Player 6.4(formerly). Works great with DVD's and such.

WMP 11 is very good - and it is now out of Beta.

My Stepson tried it and didn't like it. Don't remember why exactly - I seem to recall it's supposedly pretty heavy handed in the DRM department though.

It's been awesome. I use it as my primary media player. It's kinda nice because I suggested some features during the development and they actually listened to me.

I've rolled back to WMP10 because volume leveling is broken in version 11.

11 is awesome! I use it as my primary player, and mpc as backup. it has a very easy, nicelookin interface, loads quickly, and spacebar is back :)

Yea.
WMP11 is the best WMP to date.

Now I use WMP11 for stuff like music and some video, but for DVD's and mkv's and ogm's, and such I use Media Player Classic.

All you really need is this:
http://www.cccp-project.net/

Comes with all the codecs, MPC, ffdshow, and everything else you need.
One stop shop.

I am hearing about MPC. I have never used it. What is the reasoning for using it? Where would I get it? Would anyone be so kind to explain it to me? Thanks.

What is the cccp stuff? Would you be so kind as to explain it to an ignorant fool like me? Thanks.

Why do people love 6.4 so much? I never understood that.

And WMP11 corrected the one complaint I had with 10, the jerk in the video when in full screen mode & have the controls display or hide.

Pretty heavy in not letting users strip DRM out of protected files?

You shouldn't need Real Player anymore. I uninstall that system hog from friends and family computers that have gotten sluggish (after removing spyware, etc.).
