Is Max Payne DirectX 7 or 8? Trying to estimate if a Radeon would be powerful for it.

Well right now I play a smattering of Quake3, Rune and HalfLife.
With Diablo2 and Starcraft mixed in as well...but those are hardly video card intensive.

A Radeon would definately fit the bill for those.

The only games I'm looking forward to in the next year or so are Warcraft 3 and Max Payne.

I'm sure that War3 will be ok on a Radeon...

And Max Payne is the other interesting title.

Think that will be happy on a Radeon?

lol

you guys leave the poor guy and his typo alone.

Thanks for pointing that out e-phex...I forgot about that 3Dmark2k1 scene.

Now the question is...does the Radeon support enough DX8 features to make it fast in Max Payne?

Should be okay if you plan to upgrade now. I'd try and get a Radeon SE though. Wouldn't hurt!

I'm kinda strapped for cash....

The SE doesn't add much in the way of features does it?
It's just like an Ultra no?

yes it is...

your radeon should do fine for max payne...
and remember, it'll always have options to turn down details/textures/etc.

though i doubt u'll need to w/ a radeon and decent cpu

Duron at 1Ghz, 266Bus.
512MB PC2100 at 2-2-2.
And Radeon Vivo 64MB...probably just at 183/183

Would be my final specs.

I'm thinking a Radeon should do for most of the games for another 2 years. My TnT2 was still playing Quake 3, Unreal Tourney and Sacrifice and virtually all the newer games, and this was 2 or 3 years after it's initial release. To tell you the truth there's a 3dfx VooDoo Banshee in my brother's system and he still can play Q3 and UT. I wouldn't worry about the Radeon, it'll hold you over for a while (I've had mine ~4 months now, and plan on keeping at another year and a half).

e-phex called it. If you can run 3DMark 2000/2001 at decent framerates then you'll run Max Payne fine (same engine). Try the Matrix-esque demo in 3DMark 2001 for a taste of what Max will be like.

Runs fine on my rig (P700@933/256MB SDRAM/GF2 64MB).Looks like your rig will be more than fine.
