I always thought it was until I realized that pure mathematics doesn't exist.

New ideas are tested in ways very similar to the scientific method and are subject to peer review for validation.

I would say that it is very similar to a science. It even has some of the same flaws at the high end. (Dark Matter) (Topology)

Your confusion is not unfounded. This article discusses the various fields of mathematics (as well as computer "science") & philosophies.

It's the language of all sciences, some say it's a tool, but I think it's much more than that.

People describe math as "the language of the universe". That being the case, math is the language used to describe the properties of the universe (physics, chemistry etc) which I would classify as sciences. Calling match itself a "science" seems to be stretching it a bit.
