Is Mark Zuckerberg an a-hole?

Zuckerberg is an asshole because he knowingly and willfully, and remorselessly exploits people's ignorance about internet privacy to profit at their expense.

this, especially. He's managed to convince millions of teenagers and others of that generation that they don't, and shouldn't care about privacy.

Of course, they bitch when teachers and others find out about shit--they are the idiots for posting to public forums anyway--but they are so confused as to what they want and don't want.

Zuckerburg fully believes that privacy doesn't matter. There is absolutely nothing noble behind his intent--it is purely financial.

I just read a bunch about Zuck and the lawsuits and the hacking he did at Harvard.

Didn't realize he was that much of a jerk. The guy seems to have no ethics at all.

Typically people like him don't survive in the corporate world. Sooner or later he will get kicked off the Facebook board and removed from his CEO spot.

He'll still have a ton of money though, but at least he will get what is coming to him so to speak.

GOOD LUCK with THAT in this world.

Government is corporation's bitch. Zuckerberg is pretty much unstoppable unless he becomes blatantly stupid in his evil ways.

Is his ownership share below 50%+1 right now? If not, then no, he cannot be kicked out of a company he owns.

well guess what.

if you didn't use the site, none of your private information would be made public.

OMG WHAT A CONCEPT WOW!!

Not true.

The other share holders have rights and if Zuck's actions harm their rights then they could sue to have him removed.

Very unlikely to happen, but it is a possibility.

Interesting article on the 50/50 split. If those emails are legit...

FWIW I don't think DLA Piper (one of the biggest/top firms in the world) would get on this with this if there wasn't some sort of credible truth to it.
Beyond the contract they also have a copy of a check for $3000 that Zuck signed and deposited on the same day that the contract was signed.

If the e-mails are legit then Zuck is going to be paying this guy a LOT of money to go away.

In favor of Mark
It was their idea but Mark ran with it, faster than anyone else and launched the site. We was the visionary who understood the true potential of the website. He was thinking out of the box, where as the other guys had a sort of tunnel vision. They were just thinking in terms of school campuses. Moreover its not clear what % of coding and designing was complete at the point when Mark jumped in. Its quiet possible that he did most of the work.

Against Mark
It seems he started working on it in late November 03 and Thefacebook was launched in early Feb 04. That is simply not enough time to come up with the entire site from scratch. Even if he did most of the coding he should have shared his vision with the team and shared the success with everyone who came up with the idea to begin with.

For Mark
Independent contractors and consultants generally only license their code, it does not become the property of the person or corporation hiring the consultant. Additionally, since all that existed was an oral contract with the Winklevoss brothers with no evidence to suggest that the Winklevosses would own the rights to the code, there's no strong legal footing for a claim that Zuckerberg "stole" any intellectual property at all. The idea was neither patented nor copyrighted. Frankly, the Winkelvoss brothers are two people who had a generic idea and lacked the skills and business acumen necessary to make the idea work. They took advantage of the fact that it is often cheaper to settle than to go through a lawsuit and effectively extorted money from Zuckerberg.

Frankly, the most Zuckerberg should be liable for is returning the $400 he received to work on the ConnectU code and that's only if the code delivered to ConnectU failed to meet the terms of the oral contract.

Bottom line: The law does not, and should not, enforce morality.

I thought complete lack of ethics was a surefire way to insure your spot on a corporate board?

not saying they are all like that, but it's far from unheard of. Some of the biggest, must profitable corporations have been known to be littered with nothing but unethical, scummy douchebags. Though, you are right in a way--they don't tend to survive, b/c they bring everyone else down with them 😀 (Enron)

I know. my point, is that Zuckerburg fully believes that privacy is not an issue that people should be concerned with. I eblieve that there are no inherent privacy issues with FB, that can be actively avoided with users, as it currently exists.

I have no faith, however that it will remains so.

...well, they are actually selling your info to outside interests now. so....

It remains, from what I have seen, that he is an anti-social dbag, brainwashing a generation of humans into this notion that their personal lives and privacy are of no more value than for his own monetary benefit.

I think it's more obnoxious, than anything. If this somehow becomes dangerous, well...I don't know about that. I wouldn't be surprised, though.

In the end, people have to make their own choices, and take their own responsibility in their own lives. While I don't think it is any CEO's responsibility as guardian of the welfare of humanity, I think it's a shame that in 5 short years, he's managed to pervert this notion of responsibility out of the minds of the impressionable.
:\

You don't become one of the biggest law firms by taking cases with "credible truth" to them. You become one of the biggest law firms by taking cases that have a good chance of paying out.

If there's a strong chance that Facebook will settle (there is) and if there's at least a minimally-plausible rationale that will allow you to avoid Rule 11 sanctions (there is), then that's all that matters.

The brothers are walking away with $160 million. I suppose it is not the same as $1 billion, but it is not like they got completely screwed.

They can take that money and spend the rest of their lives sitting on their asses if they want.

$840 million buys a lot more hookers and blow.... a LOT more.

He's one rich asshole who owns 500 million people's information. (probably yours)

Wrong! I deactivated my account and never had one photo showing my face🙂.

Yay for personal responsibility. I can't believe some people leave their profiles open and actually put their cell number on.

Mark may be an asshole, but he's a rich asshole.

Mark may be an asshole, but he's a rich asshole.

Pretty much this. I don't think you make it to the top of the corporate world by being a "nice guy." You'll get eaten up by the sharks in no time.

If you then use your large wealth for philanthropic reasons, so much the better.

I was reading an article about Winklevoss brothers trying to undo their settlement, then I was reading about Divya Narendra. I feel bad for those people, this kind of thing stays with you for the rest of the life... very difficult yo move on...

IMHO he is a selfish a-hole.

Winklevoss brothers + Divya Narendra got $67M!
why are you feeling bad for them!??!

and the Winklevoss family is loaded to begin with!!!
