Should it be legalized and taxed? Its a huge industry, many counties in the US (humbolt) rely on it greatly. There are many more similiar areas in Canada. They import about 85% of all the high grade cannibus in the US. Which, who knows is how much, id say about at least a 500 billion a year industry. Shouldnt the government be wanting to tax it?

btw: this was written under the assumption that jailing people for minor marijuana offenses is not reducing the amount of marijuana smokers.

How do i insert a simple yes/no poll?

There's lots of money involved with keeping it illegal. All the lobbist monies coming in, money set aside for enforcement of it being illegal, etc.

That said, I think our government would profit more if it was legal with taxation.

I think its just about as close to alcohol prohibition as possible. A large section of the public wants it legal. It's causing all kinds of society problem b/c it's illegal (crime, etc). However, politicians are old and set in their ways. As long as the checks from DuPont and all the other paper and cloth manufactures clear each month, they are in no hurry to change things.

WTF does that mean? You buy sh!tty computers as a result of smoking weed??

You know, based on the dealings I've had with Gateway, I wouldn't be surprised if their CS reps were smoking up on the job.

Umm, the DARE officer told me that marijuana is, like, evil and makes you stupid. Also, if you smoke the pot you will probably be on the needle the next day and selling your baby brother for money. He said we should mindlessly obey the law, like, because the government knows what's best for us.

Yes, it probably would give a nice nudge to the economy as a major cash crop. Too bad we don't live in such an enlightened country that can't look past years of propaganda, not to mention special interests that would probably be threatened by legalization.

I'd never thought of pot in an economics light before. (Aside from tax revenue and lowered drug enforcement costs.)

But, yeah! Imagine what would happen! Lots of farmers switch. Prices fall. Government buys pot and gives it away at churches right next to the government cheese...

LoL
