Is "light beer" really lighter?

Guinness doesn't come in light varieties so I don't know 😉 The fewer the calories the better if you're watching them though....

I always though of light beer = less alcohol and that's it.

It's sorta the same with cigarettes. All these people are upset that light cigarettes have the same amounts of tar and what not as regular cigarettes, so they are suing the tobacco companies for false advertising. It always seemed clear to me that light = less nicotine and nothing further.

light beer was first made like the diet soft drinks,
but how many self respecting beer drinker would order up a diet beer?

so they came up w/ the term light, and it does have lesser alcho content along w/ lesser calories. on the flip side, you can just drink the meal replacement known as guinness
