stance of dominance
Now it's a thread!

As to self defense against a dog attack: My older bro trained dogs for the military, and he told me the best defense against a dog big enough to give you real trouble, is to shove your hand in its mouth/down its throat, as far as possible.

Edit: sdifox knows what's up.

another thing you can do is if the dog got your hand, instead of pulling, jam it down its throat. Dog's instinct is to pull, so if you push, you are not working against the dog. making it gag helps you free your extremity.

Of course you have to stay calm. Panic would just make it worse.

Ooh totally reminds me of that horror movie w/ these wierd creatures that attacked a old southwest bar, had tony rollins in it. End of the movie had the chick fisting the alien thing in its throat

On our way back from the playground my brother kicked a small dog that came and bit him. The dog landed about 3 feet away, yipped and ran away.

A hockey stick or baseball bat can do wonders. This thread reminds me of that story a couple years back where a 65-ish year old man was walking down the street and a pitbull came running at him and he grabbed it by the throat and choked it to death. I'm pretty sure the story was posted on this forum but I'm too lazy to search for it.

Edit: nevermind, I found it: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2005277&highlight=pitbull

I had a pit bull lunge up at me. My instincts were to knee it in the chest. The dog fell off and went away whimpering.

I felt kinda bad, I'm pretty sure I must have broken a rib or two. However, I was merely reacting in an instinctual self-defense kind of way.

Kick the dog in it's side or punch it straight down on top of its head.
Best defense though is a pepper spray to the face.
