is just lying on the bed restful when you can't fall asleep?

had a shitty night's sleep last night. woke up at 6 am, then the neighbors dog started barking and wouldn't stop.

i tried for hours to fall asleep, just lying on my bed with my eyes closed but i knew it wasn't happening.
is there a point to continue trying to fall asleep? is my body resting?
or should i just get up and go do something else more productive knowing that i won't be able to fall asleep again.

No sleeping really does nothing for you mind. If anything at all. If you cant go back to sleep then get up and do something else.

no

20 minutes trying to sleep
10 minutes reading, having some water, something (nothing that will get you really awake though)
repeat

hmm respectfully disagree without knowing any of the science behind it.

but more importantly, how are the aliens? did that thread die?

Look, unless you are on drugs (crack and/or caffeine) if you wake up and you are AWAKE AND CAN NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP then your mind has gotten enough sleep and is ready for the day. Get the hell out of bed and do something.

ElFenix...really???

I have knowledge, and you are correct. Clearly the aliens are attempting to use him to subvert us into a zombie-like vegetative state due to lack of sleep.

I hate it when my neighbors dog starts up. I absolutely cannot sleep through it, and it does it alllll the time.

Not really. The only real restful part of sleep is deep REM sleep, which only occurs for like 30 minutes ( I think). The rest is just filler

To help with sleeping there are really only 2 things that should be done in a bed...
Sleeping and something most on atot will never get. :p
