Is July 5th a National Holiday?

Since July 4th is on a Sunday this year is the 5th celebrated? I can't get a straight answer at my work. I need to know if I'm going to be able to sleep in that day, it's going to make a big difference.

Not unless you work for a sweatshop. At my company, if a national holiday falls on Saturday, you get Friday off, if it falls on Sunday, you get Monday off.

It's a federal holiday. Dunno what that means as far as a day off for the rest of you.

Typically holidays are recognized by employers the day before if they fall on a Saturday or the day after if they fall on a Sunday.

And if they arent, they're sh!t because they're robbing you of a vacation day.

uhh, no they're not. It sucks, yes, but their not "robbing" you of anything. Many companies would be open even if July 4th fell on Monday.

Yes. I have a single class to go to once a week on mondays and it is cancelled for the 5th. We only have 8 classes for the semester 😀

I was curious about this also so I asked my boss several months ago. She said we get the following Monday off.

Possibly only in the US, its territories and the Phillipines.

No reason for it to be a hopliday in Canada or Europe that I can think of.

IIRC it is NOT a US federal government holiday. So I'm guessing most banks/post offices will be OPEN for business.

I work at a bank and instead of closing Monday 7/5 we get an extra vacation day to take off whenever we want.

However most businesses will be closed on Monday 7/5.

hey, at least they are giving you a "your choice" day off... better than just taking it from you.
