Is John McCain A Conservative?

Pabster

Lifer
Story here.

We've had this debate before, but it is really going to heat up as we progress. A lot of folks here seem to think McCain can get away with alienating the strong conservative/conservative base of the GOP and still run away with the nomination. I don't believe he can. He must appeal to at least a simple majority of that spectrum. And he's got a lot of explaining to do.

A true conservative would never have supported the invasion of Iraq.

The party of true conservatism is all but dead.

Isn't that a reflection of the views of the majority though now?

And remember, no one forces a Conservative to be a Republican.

I love paulbots - this thread is about John McCain, go away.

It's too bad that when you read the word, "conservative," you can only think of Ron Paul. It must be so because no one mentioned him until you did.

lol - I love it. You guys are adapting. We all know who the Paulbots are - even if it wasn't in your sig, we know who you are. We've seen your arguments a million times, so now you leave out his name and then say "omglook1 you said it not me1!!"

I'm on to your game.

Liberals will try and obfuscate by pointing to his stance on the war, but having one or two conservative traits out of 20 does not a conservative make.

That said, he's not necessarily a flaming lib either. He's certainly the most liberal out of the entire pool of republican candidates.

To out him as a liberal may be one thing, but I see nothing wrong with saying he has liberal traits.
