Is it wrong to do this? Another raising children question . . .

When I grew up my parents took me to movies and rented horror movies that I was allowed to see. I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Freddy, Jason, Michael Meyers, etc. all on the big screen as a child (ages 7 and up). I am a normal guy (a little geeky) buy hey . .

Is it ok to take an 11 year old to see Dawn of the Dead? What is your opinions? I say yes because of my upbringing. . . but am looking for other advice as well.

I know there is alot of the thought that media violence makes kids violent. I know with me it did not happen AT ALL . . .

If it's your 11 year old, it's up to you. If it's not, I'd get permission first.

I think all the theory about media making kids violent is completely off base, I think it has quite a bit more to do with other factors such as family enviroment, social enviroment, etc.. than it does the media's impact. I've been watching R rated moives are far back as I can remember and the most violent I've ever been is playing football in high school, aside from that I've never even been in a fight. So sure, take him/her if he/she's yours.

I wouldn't allow my 11yr old to see really violent movies. There are plenty of alternatives. IMO, they will get to the explicit stuff soon enough, let them be kids while they can.

I see no harm in it. I see no harm in not doing it. The movie isn't that bad, but would definitely give an 11 year old nightmares. If you think that is healthy, don't worry about it.

My kids have grown up on that stuff and we explain to them how it's only a movie and the director says cut and the "victims" get up and do about their lives. They love horror movies and usually they are the ones requesting to seem them. They realize it's pretend but we still emphasize how movies are as fake as a three dollar bill.

My 12 year old son saw it with my wife and I on Saturday and a few weeks before that we had rented 28 Days which he liked too.

its your call , personally i wouldnt, kids have plenty of time when they grow up to see that stuff
