Is it wrong not to attend my friends wedding?

I 've known the guy since 2001. We used to work together, he left in late 2002. He lives in Detroit, I live in Chicago. Wedding is in L.A., because thats where the fiance is from. He is a good friend...but I would not say best friend. He mentioned something about the wedding, if I would think L.A. would be nice. I told him LA is a nice place, "but doesn't really matter to me, I don't go to weddings. Is you decision where you want to have it." Then he started giving me crap that is just wrong and all that stuff.

I told him is not just him, I hate all weddings...and I hate to travel. I really don't care to, and avoid traveling as much as possible.

So whats the big deal!!!!

His wedding should only happen once in his life. I'd think you were a jerk too.

Weddings do blow...the only good thing about them is there's a mild chance you can score on some drunken desperate brides maids.

You told him you "don't go to weddings"? Why didn't you say you didn't know if you'd be able to make it or something?

Because he was under the mistaken assumption that all people do not in fact want to be lied too. :p

Weddings are fun, and LA isn't a bad location. I have to go to EFFING MINNESOTA for a wedding in August. There's another perfectly good beach weekend that I will never get back.

I don't get the aversion to weddings, but you could have been a little more tactful about it. I didn't mind people not coming to my wedding...if you opt out that means I can invite someone else.

I skipped on a friends wedding this year that was in this town! Actually, it's because I don't get along with his wife very much, but that's another story.

Either way, don't go to the wedding and if he can't accept it, tell him to pay your plane ticket and lodgings and you will go. Odds are he will say no and you get away scott free. I hate weddings but I hate weddings that cost me a plane ticket even more.

If it was close by home I would go since he's your friend. But they can't expect people to pay hundreds of dollars to fly out, stay in a hotel, etc. They should nly expect very close family and very close friends to go if it's halfway across the country...

Weddings are meant to last forever. I don't believe in divorce. It won't even be in my or my gf's vocabulary.

I guess so. I only do what makes me happy and not think of others. Thanks for the compliment.

I've never been to an enjoyable wedding. I hope to make mine short and painless for all involved. We'll get the short version from Spaceballs or something
