IS it worth waiting for the NForce 4 Ultra boards

I am in the middle of building a new system, and have been torn between waiting for the new asus sli board or just going with the A8V now. I am matching it up with the 3500+, 939, 90nm.

I dont do alot of gaming and dont think I'll be using 2 video cards in the machine any way.

Figure when these new boards come out (who knows when), if I want to upgrade, i'm just out the cost of the new board and a better card (will probably just get by with a 9600xt for now).

Any disadvantages with just getting the current AGP board and a used 9600XT for now as I am tired of waiting.

Thanks

I know Im in the same boat. To get the newer motherboard means replacing my wonderful antec true430 for a 24 pin supply, having to pay well over $100 more for a PCIe version of the 6800GT, and hoping everything goes smoothly with something that no is sure will be less problematic than the current offerings.

At this point Im about to just give up waiting, save a good amount of money and just get a Neo2 or A8V.

Same boat... Waiting for the reviews to hit in the next week before deciding one way or another... Maybe I'll go "cheap" this time around and dump the extra funds into a dual core CPU and mature R500 SLI : ) Decisions...

I have decided that the SLI is too expensive for me and not really an option. The nforce3/4 boards haven't really shown to be too impressive to me vs. the via k8t. I will be going with an Abit AV8 instead of waiting for any nforce set. They are both good sets but there is no reason to wait IMO. I don't need any of the extra features on the nforce3. The via has plenty

Not for awhile yet, at least another week or so.....hell, maybe considerably more. Once you see all the sites reviewing them you'll know they are here for real as the review sites will most likely get them sooner than we can.

EDIT: Hell, Tech Spot only just got an nVidia "reference" board for review. It's really shaping up to be like they will be out MUCH later than originally suggested. If I'd known a month ago what I know now I'd probably have went AGP VGA and nForce3. Watching all my shiny new parts gather dust isn't nearly as much fun now as it was 3 weeks ago....doesn't help much that my crusty old 1800+/A7V266e/8500dv 64/ system is having boot problems either.

Several of the review sites said they would be actually on the shelves as of....two weeks ago. Of course this was way back when they were first paper launched. Hate waiting on hardware... :)

I've seen 2-3 sites review the Gigabyte NF4 Ultra (anandtech is one) and one that has reviewed the Asus SLI board, so I imagine boards will really be out soon. As for performance, retail board reviews like the Gigabyte are about 5% faster than NF4 reference, and the reference board was able to keep up with the older chipsets, so there will be some performance benefits of the chipset. Also, going PCIe gives you nice upgrades, like SATA-II drives, high speed peripherals like soundcards, HDTV tuners, etc., and lets you get the best midrange video cards, like the 6600GT and X700XT (of course the XT is MIA right now, but it might be out soon). I say wait, it will be before christmas, hopefully well before it, and if it's not here for christmas, then there will be huge clearance sales on 2004's hardware, so you have that to console you.
