Is it worth upgrading to Kit Kat ?

I have the option on my Acer tablet but it comes with a warning that Kit Kat Doesn't allow 3rd party apps to use the SD card. Not sure if this is a big deal or not.

Issue I had when I did an upgrade to kitkat on the note 3.

I couldn't save my torrents directly to the SD card. I had to download to torrent folder then xfer it over to sd card.

4.4 changes the way the SD cards work, making them more secure if slightly more annoying to use. Not a good enough reason to avoid the update, IMO.

I noticed a speed difference.

Or maybe it was just a placebo effect. I dunno.

It does give you a little more room by extending the screen to the capacitive buttons I think.

if you want a quick way to make your device "feel faster", decrease the Window Animation scale (requires you to enable Developer Options, but no root necessary and 100% reversible)

I put mine to 0.25x (slimkat rom on nexus 5 allows that).. it's feel super fast now, wish all of my other android devices can be like that

I've just updated and it was a big mistake. The battery life is brutal and it is too slow. Home button takes a few seconds to go home and a lot of other problems. It sucks!

Phone dialer sucks. Especially if you are in the middle of a call and need to access the keypad to enter an extension or numeric string. I have to hit the damn keypad button three times to get it to launch.

[EDIT] in general I hate the phone and contact manager in the later versions of stock android. Dare I say that it was something that Touchwiz was actually better at?

Sense 6 is even better 😀

Anyway, I agree to you to some degree. With KitKat, Google made the dialer looks better/cooler, but at the expense of functionality. Luckily my phone is an M7 and I'm sticking with Sense ROM.

What functions exactly? I believe I have the KitKat dialer on my OPO (30O version), and I haven't noticed anything missing.

Not missing, just different. What vi_edit described above is an example. In general it's probably just getting used to the new system when you're used to the previous. If you searched this forum there have been a few threads/posts about it.

Went from JB to KK on my LG G2. Battery life might be a slight bit better on some days (+/-5%), but I have some Gapps crashes and I can't get my launcher to work exactly how I liked it before.

On my LG Optimus Pro G, KitKat fixed a few longstanding bugs I had, but overall it has made my phone sluggish, run much hotter, and shortened my battery life. Overall I'm pretty pissed off with it - especially the sluggishness. Sometimes it takes several seconds before the icons appear when going back to the home page. I hardly have any Apps running. I didn't do a factory reset, but I did clear out the cache when I did the update.

Trim and garbage collection is worth the upgrade.

And being able to use ART.

I found the KitKat dialer a big improvement over jelly bean's as it finally supports T9 contact lookup from the numeric pad - i.e. type a couple of letters of a name, and a list of possible contacts appear. Sense and Touchwiz were doing this back in the days of gingerbread, so I've no idea why it took so long.

KK (4.4.4) runs great on my Note 2. I am finding everything better than 4.3. My battery life is very good and everything is quite snappy.

Probably your hardware, not the OS. Kitkat on my Nexus 7 (2103) works like a charm. Fast, good battery life, smooth as silk.

My Droid Maxx upgraded itself to KitKat last month - nothing negative noted. Since it cost nothing, it seems to have been worthwhile.
