Is it worth upgrading from a GTX470 for 1080p

I have been out of the loop since I built my PC a few years ago and is there a significant upgrade to my GTX470 for 1080p. The games I play are Guild Wars 2 and Battlefield 3 (and 4 when it's released). I'm not noticing any lag in BF3, but in GW2 there is some lag in WvW but that's more ram/cpu/network based than video.

I was considering a GTX760 as an upgrade or an ATi equivalent. I believe my specs are in my sig.
 
As a person who went 470->770 i'd say yes.

In places where i had 30-40 fps i'm getting constant vsynced 60 at same or better settings.

It's also huge improvement noise wise (from reference 470 blower to msi gaming 😀)
 
Asking Gaming/VC Enthusiasts whether they'd upgrade to have 1080p available to them?

I wonder what they'd say...
 
If your looking to play BF4 at high-ultra settings at 1080p then yes i would recommend upgrading that GPU.

Remember its Beta though so optimization isn't the best right now
 
A 760 4GB would be a solid upgrade that should last a long time, and also open the door to solid 1440P with the right settings. 3GB 7970GE is also a great buy right now. You seem the type to carry a card for a long time, so I wouldn't go less than that for sure.

Are you overclocking your 470? They often have quite a bit of potential due to their low factory clock speed.

You made it this long... 470 does fine with BF3, and will do fine with BF4 with the proper settings even at 1080p.

I'd wait for 20nm, or snag up a used 7950 for $150 or less when people dump their current cards for AMDs upcoming 28nm refresh.
 
Went from an decently overclocked GTX 460 1GB (875 Mhz) to a GTX 670. I game at 1920x1200 and its like night and day. While your card at stock is a little faster than my old OC'd GTX 460, I'm sure you'll see a big difference in your current games if you step up to something like your considering (or an HD 7950 which is a very good buy right now).
 
You're card is stellar. My old GTX 460 1GB SLI setup at 875/1750/4200 at 1680x1050 had a minimum framerate of 44.5 fps and a maximum of 68.2 fps in Battlefield 4.
 
I'd upgrade to 7970. I went from 560 Ti to 7950 and the difference was definitely worth it
 
 
I should note that my screen is only 21". If that makes a difference. I can wait but I have a gift card for microcenter and a coupon so I'm not paying all that much out of pocket no matter what I buy.

screen size means nothing as its the resolution that matters. and I have never heard of 21 inch screen anyway.

and we can go back and forth all day long but only you can decide when you need to upgrade. for example my 660ti does great but at the same time I could run more AA and a couple more settings in a few games if I bought a faster card.

I have already decided that I will upgrade as long as I would see significant gains. I'm not the type that can upgrade to justify 10 frames in a video game, but 30 frames is a huge difference. I will look into the 760 & used 7950's. Maybe I should get a 770 and be done with it for a few years.

a 760 is about a 60% faster card so it will be quite a jump. no point in overpaying for a 770 just to keep it longer. its more sensible to just upgrade the 760 in a year or two for a newer card with better features.
