Is it worth to buy High-Quality CD-Medias?

ndee

Lifer
Just wanna know.... but how are empty CDs called in English? Is there a "slang" word for it? 😉

NicColt: I meant, if I buy a Media without speed indications on it, is it worth to buy such a media or not? I would guess not....

I say it is.
Alot of cheapo media wont work in some sensitive CD's, like for instance both my Pioneers, one DVD and one SCSI 32x CD had lotsa trouble reading noname blank silver disks.
And alot of car CD players have problems like this too.

I have a 12/10/32A Plextor burner and I have used almost all of a 50 pack 8x cheapo spindle with no problems. All cds even burned at 12x
gotta love Plextor drives 🙂

For Data CDs that you don't need to last 100 years don't bother...you CDRW won't be very picky about reading CDs on cheap media, but if you are making Audio CDs or something that will be going in other CD drive (specifically non-computer ones, and especially Car CD players) then you might want to consider high quality ones then.

As for speed rating you should probably get them speed rated to match your CDRW...but it doesn't always matter, like I have some old Kodac Ultima Gold CDs that are Rated at 4x because that was the fastest CDRW avaialbe when I got them, but they work fine at 8x in my new 8x8x24 drive.

However, I've also had CDs rated at 4x that give us blue screens on my roommates 6x...so it's kind of hit and miss...I'd buy CDs that are certified for my Speed...

I'm using Imations, which I consider cheap, for my PC backups, files, etc. Using TDK Cert+ and Verbatim DataLife+ for copies of things and music. Don't really use CD-RWs.. 🙂

I use Imation for 80 min CDRs or Memorox for 74Min... either work fine for me.... all my CD players/drives read them 100% perfectly.

Recently, I bought a stack of PNY CD's. I found that it did not have speed markings only after I opened it. To make the story short, it works fine on my 8X Acer and 8X Samsung with Nero, burnt at 8x full speed. I made both data and audio CD's. No problem. I intend to use up the 50 CD stack for both critical and non-critical data.
