Is it worth the trouble to upgrade to Windows XP from Windows ME?

Hi,

I used to run Windows 2000, but I had to sacrifice and run WIndows ME, because the SPDIF passthru is not working in WIn2K and I need that SPDIF for my speakers.

Anyways, I take it that SPDIF and most games run on WIndows XP? Is it worth upgrading from ME to XP? And , if so, would you recommend XP Home or XP Pro (which cost a lot more) for general gaming, DVD movies, things like that?

TIA

Are you happy and content with WinME?

Are there any new features in WinXP that appeal to you or are necessary?

If you do choose to upgrade, make sure of the following:

1.) All your hardware is XP compatible. Check the MS site.

2.) Your BIOS/Motherboard is pretty current. Check Manuf.'s site to see if any fixes pertaining to XP are listed in the BIOS update section.

3.) Backup your "data" files.

4.) You have at least 256MB of RAM.

5.) And 1GB+ of free space for the OS itself.

6.) Your DVD hardware/software works in XP.

In your case, XP Home would be just fine. If you have the extra cash, get Pro, it has a few more features.

Good luck!
