is it worth it to become a reseller?

I'm thinking about getting my tax certificate and buying computer supplies from wholesalers. Is it worth it? with the computer industry so cut throat should I just buy what I need from newegg and the like?.
Does anyone know of what parts cost whole sale? maybe a specific example like a hard drive or case?

I'd like some input:)

Example: Newegg price for Athlon XP 2000+. Take that, add 7.5-10% and thats TechData's price.

Enlight 9 bay case $65

I've been doing this for a while. IMHO, unless you have big bucks, forget it.

It depends on your volume, at the volume I do newegg's prices are pretty competative to my wholesaler. I only save a couple $ per item and of course shipping is cheaper on bulk purchases. To really get good prices you have to do a substantial volume and then you have to deal with technical support.

I used to order supplies when I worked in the medical field, I remember their being a large difference from vendor to vendor with their terms.
1 you could order anything, another it had to be at least $2000, some required credit applications some didn't.

are there any decent places that don't require a lrge minimum order or, extensive applicatino proces?

Find the right thing to sell, at a price that is far below current market value, and you can make a lot.

PsychoAndy is right. As a small reseller, you can't move the volume to get good prices. You're better off buying from newegg and reselling if you want to sell cdrw drives to the neighbors or something.

I worked in pc retail for a while, we were with TechData and D&H. Neither of them had prices better then newegg or pricewatch.

Does anyone know who sells to newegg? Maybe we can all band together and start a 'newegg killer'! :)

I was thinking about doing the same, but NewEgg's offerings have swayed me into thinking otherwise. :) Reseller prices aren't going to be much cheaper than them.

Doubtful. Newegg is one arm of a group of companies, and together, their purchasing power is great. They buy mostly direct from the manufacturer, buying hard grives and some things in the grey market. Sometimes they take items they buy for one of their system houses (ABS Computer, for example) and resell them on Newegg, a no-no. But overall, they are hard to beat.

McVeigh.. Stick to Newegg, even with tax and shipping, they are cheaper than local sources (Tampa Bay Area)

I would rather buy from somewhere mail-order, about the same price, without the long wait at the will call counter.. And have it delivered to my house. :)

(The above is my OPINION, just to clarify for you legal folks..)
