Is it worth it for me to change my thoroughbred 1600+ to a barton 2500+?

My computer runs SQL server 2000 for me as a database platform along with running MySQL (learning that) and also loads on IIS is minimal. I do a bit of light gaming, digital drawing with the wacom tablet, and some music as well as having bittorrent (azureus) in the background. The most load that I have seen is around 30% on average when I use it but at certain points when it is at 100% it seems that server aspects stop.

Now I know what you are all thinking, get another computer for the server stuff. But I have only one room for one computer for the moment so physically it is impossible. Probably some of you would suggest dual processing but I plan to hold that off until I have a major upgrade (dual 64bit)

As of right now I am not complaining because it is not too bad but it seems sluggish at times. What would be your suggestions?

Come think of it, it would not be much of a difference except how fast things tend to appear and how fast some tasks complete. It would be but a small difference.

Had if I had dual processors though, I could possibly see a difference in work being done. But as I said before, that would be a major upgrade though as I would like to have a 64 bit setup by then.

So perhaps another question is, is it worth it to go for a dual opteron 1.4 setup? If so, is anyone interested in an Athlon XP 1600+ system with 768MB of memory on an Epox 8k5a3+?

I believe you would see quite an improvement, since you would be adding 400mhz (at stock speed), plus double the L2 cache. Plus, the Bartons are actually overclockable, and the Palimino's weren't exactly AMD's best attempts at building a chip to be overclocked.

So just spend the 80 bucks for a new chip? and how overclockable can i get that sucker on my epox?

You don't need another computer for the server stuff. For some reason people are under the impression that if you've got more than 50 hits/day to a website suddenly you need a gig of ram and a dual proc setup, but that's nonsense. Your hardware is capable of handling many, many thousands of hits/day as it is.

I'd only get the upgrade if you feel like you don't have enough power for games.
