is it worth it buying the XBOX Live starter kit?

i have a pair of USB headphones/mic, i'm just wondering if it would just be better to buy the XBOX to USB connector, and just use that, instead of picking up the LIVE kit..

i could just use XConnect (or whatever it's called...)

I think it's worth it.

I play NFL2K3 & RTCW on Xbox live and it's alot of fun. I don't know how Xbox connect works but I can't imagine it would give you all the features Xbox live does. And besides, it's a good service and I think it's worth it.

Xbox Connect is only for a very few games. I pretty much only see Halo and Brute Force being played. The majority of games online are still played on Xbox Live.

i'd have no intention of continuing the service. i just want something i can go online with.
I'm not sure what you mean by that, since you cannot play on the Live network without the service.
