Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a 7800gt, hopefully this weekend (back Friday). I currently have 2 Asus Extreme 6600gt's.

Will I see a good noticeable difference or should I just wait till I can affor two video cards.

Any other recommendations before I buy.

Yes, absolutely. 2X 6600GT's are about equal in performance to a 6800GT, and the 7800GT is a good margin faster than the 6800GT or dual 6600GT's. Plus you should be able to recover most of the money by selling the 6600GT's.

No. You have a 19 inch monitor right now, which I assume can only play 1280/1024. Def not worth it to upgrade at those resolutions

Even at 12x10 you will see significant difference while playing newer games like COD2 or F.E.A.R. Also since you sell those 6600GTs you won't have to pay much to upgrade to 7800GT . . .

You're right Hacp. The max. resolution on my Samsung is 1280x1024.

Sure it is, he can crank AA and AF higher (AA for sure), and probably get TAA running in some games as well.

Besides, newer games like FEAR will benefit even at 1280X1024. It chugs in places like nothing else!

I would do it man, if you can sell both of those for 130(dunno how much used 6600gts are going for these days) each then you will only need to drop 50-60 bucks and get yourself a 7800gt. This is coming from a guy who believes SLI is only for the uber-high end, or low end folk. ( I think there are times when a couple of cheapo 6600s will get you 200 dollar performance for less.)

Definitely worth it, even at that resolution. You should see quite an improvement in BF2.

Probably a bit less for a used 6600GT since hot deals for new ones are about that price. Still, even if they can be sold for $100 each, cheapest 7800GT deal running is an AOpen for $290 after $30 MIR and free shipping at the 'Egg. If the OP doesn't live in a taxed state, then $90 for an upgrade that will benefit everything including games that do not have a driver profile for SLI can't be all that bad.

Do it.
