hey all...
i just got my new lcd monitor from dell.. .but i do notice 1 white dead pixel...

is it worth the hassle to exchange the monitor?

thanks

I wouldn't. 1 dead pixel is pretty good. You could end up with one with 2 or 3 dead pixels and right in the middle of the screen!

And then send that one back as well.

Dell is good about returns, keep exchanging until you get a perfect one.

Or if you get sick of it, just return it altogether.

IF you can exchange it, then go for it. I don't know if they will change it because of one dead pixel, but it depends. I don't have any experience with monitors with dead pixels, all the LCDs I've dealt with have been dead pixel-free, but I imagine how irritating it can be.

it's to the right bottom part of the screen, but torwards the center...

i just hope that i don't have to exchange many times cause it'll cost me shipping charges.

I wouldn't, odds are pretty good the next monitor will be worse not better. Course if you want to keep returning...

Before you flip out, GIVE IT A FEW DAYS.

Leave it on for a couple days, with the brightness cranked up.

See if it goes away.

fvck mke man I'd be so poed if I had a dead pixel on an expensive lcd I bought.

Thats why I'm going to go to a shop check out the actual performance of the screen in dvd and gaming for a bit. Then insist I get a new one from stock and I check it out there and then. If it has a dead pixel I'll ask for another one. I'm not going to part with my money until I get a perfect one😀

They will send you a shipping label if you ask.

yea i guess... i'm speaking to the sales rep right now.... maybe i'll still get a return but just cancel it later if the pixel goes away..

if you don't return it, you'll ALWAYS notice that one dead pixel...if you have enough will power to not focus on it, by all means keep it. i don't think that dead pixels can spread, can they?

If it's not going to cost you anything and you can keep on returning in then you've got nothing to lose.

This is a good strategy, but there are some defects hard to notice at first. Onle when you get accustomed with the LCD, you will see if it has any backlight imperfections, and not all dead pixels are bright enough to notice. It's pretty much next to impossible to get a 100% perfect monitor IMO.

I have a single dead pixel in the middle of my Dell 1900FP LCD.

Have or will I exchange it? No. Yes I could but I hardly notice it unless I focus on it all the time (which I don't).

Besides I'd be REALLY PISSED off if the LCD I exchanged it for came with even MORE dead pixels.

It has a 3 year warranty, so one day if I get bored I may request a new LCD, for now I love it.

I thought that most manufacturers stated somewhere in their literature (fine print, no doubt!) that X number of dead pixels were acceptable before they would replace a monitor.
I know that this was true with older IBM laptops, and I thought it was still true with newer LCDs

yea i dunno... they just issued me a return without asking anything.
and they even said that if the one they sent me the second time around is worse, i can call them and let them know which one i'm keeping.

btw.... i am trying the brightness and contrast bottom on this thing and it seems that they are both for adjusting brightness??
is this supposed to happen?

I'd only exchange it if you were running a straight black background on a constant basis. If you're running business applications and surfing the Web, then I would not exchange it. You'll only notice it on a black background - or, while playing some DVD movies on your PC.
