Is it unethical for me to stay at drive through window if asked to get out of line for people behind me?

Over the last few years, I have noticed more and more fast food places asking me to get out of line after I have paid for food, and driven up to the window where you typically get the food you have ordered.
I've found this request to be rather rude, since I believe that folks in a line should get their food in the order that they were in line.

It sort of feels like people behind me are getting to "cut" in front of me by pushing me aside.

What do you guys think - would it be unethical for me to stand my ground and say "I've paid, and now I'm at the pickup window. I have no obligation to let other people cut in front of me, or to move
from the pickup window."

Curious about your thoughts...

They aren't "cutting". The franchise is graded on how long it takes to fill orders. That's why they do it.

Just fucking drive the extra 15ft and park. You staying in line and being uncooperative isn't getting you your food any faster.
But, but... showing a caring side to others... gosh, that's how socialism takes root! FYGM!

There's like this guy.... historical, mostly,... used to talk about a rule, a golden rule.

That or this isn't socialism.

I ask them when did they take the fast out of fast food? Then I ask for a refund.

I mean they are under no obligation to serve you or not to tell you to take your business elsewhere!

Different orders take different times to cook. It's pretty common for them to tell you to go park and they'll bring your order over when it's ready.
Or you could just park and go in?!

Yes, it's unethical, in that you're opting to inconvenience both the workers inside the restaurant and the people behind you in the drive through because you're a fussy manchild.
Do you also whine if you order food inside a restaurant and observe someone who ordered after you getting their food first?

Did a brief stint at waiting tables when I was young and absolutely people complain about that!

Taco Bell started doing this crap. It wouldn't be so bad but I was a regular customer ordering the same damn thing each Friday and whenever they asked us to park the order started taking longer to receive. I've since found somewhere else to eat so they lost a regular customer.

If I had a large complicated order it wouldn't be a problem.

used to happen to me doing the drive-through, only when I was ordering "mass qtys".
Well, I mean, I usually do order a couple of burgers each for our family. I figured that was pretty common. Ever since I was young, adults always reinforced that in lines "no cutting, and first come, first served". I can see the other side of it for people with just one or two items, getting to go through faster, but it still annoys me and feels like they are cutting.

I think part of my annoyance comes from the fact that I used to go to 'Hot 'n Now', a burger chain with only about 6 or 7 things on the menu. It was amazing how quickly you could get through the line there - probably 3X the speed of other burger places.

From what I've read, Wendy's originally had 5 items, & McDonald's 9. I'm guessing their lines were probably 2X or 3X as fast as today, too.

They do this if one of the items you ordered may take longer to make as maybe they ran out of something or what not. The items that the others are getting might already be made. I'd say just go park, you're only going to piss off people if you make everyone wait and your food won't be ready any faster.

Nah...just stand your ground...but beware...you might get some "special sauce" in your order.

Entered the thread fully expecting someone to call for a stance of dominance.

Left disappointed.

I'm still annoyed about the time they refused to serve me at the drive-in window just because I was on a bicycle.

I am not sure on this one, I suppose it depends on the situation. It does seem to me like they should be doing first come first serve, but then if you have a long order, sometimes they can do things in parallel, and could bring the food when it is ready. You don't want to hold up the line. I think it is best for you just to park, provided they bring the food out to you, which many places do. Now, if they asked you to get back in line to pick up, that would be a total dick move iMO. I wouldn't stand for that, and I would probably escalate/complain...but I don't think that is what is happening, is it?
