Bah.....Even 10 second clips of Itchy and Scratchy on the Simpsons pwns T&J. I don't see what the big deal is. T&J doesn't even play on a major network anymore.

It's sad how many old cartoons have been censored, chopped up, or outright ditched because of PC bullsh!t (violence, racism and social no-nos like smoking).

BTW, the golden era for both Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies was the 1940s and early 50s. Most anything made after that, especially the 60s was pure garbage in comparison.

The hands down funniest Looney Tunes was "Rabbit Seasoning." (Surprising, because of it's late release date [1952]) A short seldom if ever seen on TV anymore because of violence.

Daffy : He does tho have to shoot me now!
[to Elmer] I demand that you shoot me now!

Get the banned Bugs Bunny toons, very funny stuff.

Already got 'em, I'll have to find the list of ones I have.

Everyone has "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" though, and the one where he impersonates Hitler and has a German officer salute him and shout "HEIL."

Seriously. I am going to collect all this stuff to show to my kids someday. That and a bunch of the old Nickelodeon classics.

I did se on the news not long ago that they've cut out all of the smoking scenes due to whiny b1tches. Like the one's where Tom rolls his own smoke and lights up.

If you want to see a bad one, check out Looney Tunes "Jungle Jitters" - the episode is based in Africa, and I don't think it'd go over well today.

The interesting part is, when I'd see these commercials as a kid, they didn't really inspire hatred in me. I saw the "blackface" and didn't think it was offensive, mainly because I didn't even know what it was supposed to represent, at least when it'd be Tom after his head was in an exploding barrel. If I saw Bugs Bunny or someone else in blackface, I just thought it was funny looking, not knowing its overtones. I didn't associate it with, "Oh look, they're making fun of black people." I thought, "Huh, black on his face with white lips. Weird."
Or the maid in Tom and Jerry - my thought was, "Oh, they have a maid, and she would appear to be black." That was it, like, hey, black people have sometimes been known to take such jobs. It really does happen. I'm sure people of other races also take those jobs. It just happens.

I guess the adults can inject the racist ideas into the kids' minds then - That something wasn't a benign design, but it was intended to belittle another race. Then the kid gets a quick introduction into the wide world of hate and prejudice awaiting him in the real world.

The funny thing about Jungle Jitters, if you can look past the stereotypes, is that the Africans are the smart ones who win, and the white people are stupid and lose in the end.

all i know is they stopped speedy Gonzales a while ago because of the racist context.....or something. i signed a petition to get it back (didnt work...YET)

I figured that's why I hadn't seen Speedy in awhile...loved that cartoon as well.

As for Tom and Jerry, that's one of my all-time favorite cartoons. Up there with Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner. Those were awesome cartoons back in the day.

It will be a sad day in America if they ever stop airing those cartoons.

Speedy > Tom and Jerry.
Who the crap complained about Speedy?

I flipped through Cartoon Network the other day, and saw it being aired. Maybe they're screening only certain episodes?

There are a lot of episodes they won't play.

All of the ones with the black maid are right out...

I think they still play the black maid episodes occasionally but they changed her voice

I guess it's like one argument I heard about Benny Hill being sexist - it was by one of the women who was in the Hill's Angels team. She said that the show is entirely sexist, absolutely. In every scene or skit, the man is the moron, and he loses out.

99% of the commercials on TV are sexist then too.

Or it could just be that 99% of men are morons, and are too stupid to realize it.
