The old way is the best way IMHO ,I always do it with a clean floppy disk with my MSI board,you hear too many people having bad flashes trusting the Live bios update program,as to your post heading question it`s news to me so don`t know.

Personally, I would run your flash program from a bootable floppy. I wouldn't trust flashing from within WinXP. Probably would be ok, But I like to remove any possible variables, programs, or OS weirdnesses that could royally bone aa BIOS flash and render you useless. I HAVE done it in Win98 with good results, but we are talking about WinXP here and since software is just catching up to speed with the OS, Better to be safe than sorry.

I fried a Pro2a bios by using the live update from Win2k one time. Avoid it like the plague. That's the only bad bios flash I've ever had.

I've flashed my Pro2-RU three times through Win2k and WinXP and they have all worked so far.

Yes, avoid MSI Live BIOS, I tried using it today on a MSI 845 Ultra-ARU, it gave an error and then it would not boot. I could not flash with a floppy. Called MSI Tech Support and they are sending a new BIOS chip.

Stay away from MSI's live bios update software. You should also never flash your bios directly from a floppy. Either load the bios software from your hard drive at the command prompt or if your using NTFS load it onto ramdrive using a floppy then run it.

MSI use to recommend this way few months back however I believe they have recently changed the way of Bios updating,the best recommendation is to check with the website of the motherboard brand in question,software programs like MSI LIVE BIOS that let you flash from within Windows are best to be avoided so try to avoid flashing from within Windows if possible,btw Epox still recommend flashing from floppy so you will get different recommended ways of flashing the BIOS from various sites.
