Is it true that Nokia phones last 2 to 3 days on a single charge?

Is this true that their battery life is so much better than the likes of iPhone or Galaxy S4 which needs to be charged at least twice a day if you're using it heavily or BlackBerry which needs to be charged at least once a day?

I really would like to buy a phone that I can use heavily chatting on whatsapp without being so paranoid about my battery depleting

and how is whatsapp on nokia phones anyway?

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or LG G2

both have 3,000mAh or larger batteries, I unplugged my phone(LG G2) last night at 17:00, now at 08:00 it has 95% battery, that is with texting, and some light web browsing and email checking, etc.

No need to go with nokia, especially since you will be stuck with windows phone OS... android is much more usable. Windows phone 8 has shitty app support to, so if you have android or iOS apps you really really like, it is likely you wont be able to find them in WP8.

Yes somewhat, that's why I went with the LG G2, its an IPS LCD so it uses less power than the AMOLED screen on the samsung, its not as bright as the samsung, but it is still pretty bright. The G2 also uses a new technology that doesnt refresh the screen if there is a static image, so it uses less power because of that as well.

Both phones will give excellent battery life though, from most tests they appear very similar.

I've used and returned the Lumia 520. Battery dropped like a bomb when I streamed video.

What? AMOLED's are known for less power...LCD's for their brightness.

Lumia 1520 has a 3400 mAh battery as well. However they will last a couple days just like any other smartphone will -- when you don't use it. If you use them constantly the battery will go down constantly.

The 520 only has a 1300 mAh battery I believe.

It takes better quality video (4k video) BUT it does not have Optical image stabilisation(OIS), the LG G2 does have OIS which means your video wont shake (due to your hand movement), the 4k video on the Note 3 is more of a gimmick, because of the lack of OIS and a lack of 4k supported displays the 4k video is essentially unusable, either from being too shaky to see anything, OR from being too large to display on any display costing under $2-3k

4k video gives you the option of using decent software based image stabilisation and to zoom the image.

I've certainly wanted more pixels when I've been post processing 1080 video.

My Nokia 1020 last 2 days. Sometimes a bit more depending on how much I use it. I email and do the typical web stuff all the time and of course photos and videos.

**I did have over 4 days once with very little data use. Can't use that as real world though. People by phones for data.

AMOLED's use more power to generate colors. Black is the only free color I believe when it comes to power consumption. Black wallpaper, black themes will increase battery life.

G2 and Note 3 are both fine on battery, camera, etc. The real difference will be form factor and use case.

G2 is as large as it can get and still really be one-hand... but you have to deal with the odd button positioning. Note is mostly two-hand, but the stylus makes the second hand really much more powerful. Also, larger screen, expandable storage...

Play with them both in a store.

I've got a Nokia and I wouldn't say that it lasts any longer than other phones, but I haven't done much in the way of testing. I have gotten by without charging it every day, but I'm not using it heavily so your mileage may vary.

My 521 (essentially the same as a 520) uses a 1430mAh battery - looking at it right now - don't have a 520 to check though.

Really happy with this phone - $100 (or cheaper depending on what specials are happening any particular day) and no contract.

Edit: was just checking it out - the standard capacity battery is 1320.

My droid maxx can easily get 3 days with moderate usage. 2 full days with normal usage, and 1.5 or more with pretty heavy usage.


Friday night at about 6 it had a full charge when I went to the Pelicans game. Used nav for about 45 minutes, took a bunch of pictures, and misc browsing in timeouts/etc. Didn't charge it overnight before taking it to the LSU game, where I was on campus for 12 hours tailgating and taking over 350 pictures and checking scores during breaks. Also used another hour of nav. Only had about 4 hours of screen on time but I was doing a lot when it was on. When I got back to my hotel in NOLA it was at 54%

Are you talking about the Lumia line? Getting 2 to 3 days of battery life on them is do-able, but you'll be making a lot of concessions. Plan on plugging in nightly. Anandtech does have Lumia's in their battery life charts, though those are worst case scenario.

My 920 seems to have good idle battery time, but using it during bad 3G reception seems to overheat/drain battery really fast. Using internet/gaming is definitely what kills the battery fastest, all other areas I think the battery time is pretty good.

It all depends on usage. My nexus 4 usually goes 36 hours before it tells me that I should charge it.

I had a 1221, 1100, 3330, and 6230.
They went better part of a week. But I'm not sure about the WP8 devices. I kinda doubt it.

Oh, and the E71 lasted about 3 or 4 days. It was a fine replacement for a Blackberry, except it coudlnt do anything better and didnt have the ecosystem.

iOS -- same sort of "put apps into a frozen state" with a limited number of background tasks apps can call on.

I doubt it since the hardware is basically android phones. Software cant make that much difference .
