Is it true that blacks are 50% more likely to get cancer?

Saw this on a commercial. It said blacks are 50% more likely to get lung cancer from cigs than whites. Why is this?

Not theat blacks are more apt to get cancer, it is just that they smoke more. I hate when the media plays with statistics.

I remember reading somewhere that blacks smoke menthol more than non-menthol(don't ask me why this is). Since menthol makes it easier to inhale they usally inhale deeper makeing them smoke more and since it goes deeper into the lungs theres more lung tissue that can get cancer.

Skull, excellent point. For some reason Menthol cigarettes are almost exclusivley a product consumed by balck people. Perhaps it is some incredibly powerful media control, but this is a fact. However, blacks (as a percentage of their population) smoke far less than white people do. Smoking is still very much the realm of white society, and most surprisingly, is the concentration of women. The leatherfaced old lady with a cigarette in her mouth isn't just an exaggerated stereotype.
