i'm having a hard time to decide right now whether to abandon my amd 1900xp and go to 2.4 p4. right no whenever i tried to do video editing or dvd multimedia recording(not illegal kind) . i got frequent freezes and hang-up not even in the middle to finish up, i tried to take all the extra cards in the slot no oc,set to defualt in the bios but still no avail. and my friend say his p4 works smoothly not even once that happen to him. so my question, is amd good for gaming and intel good for multimedia??

my specs 1900xp

I'd say the memory bandwidth is more conducive to video editing, although I don't do much myself.

I think for video editing, you're best off with a dual cpu setup. at the very least you should grab a CPU that will OC with a nice high FSB to move that data :)

They both are good...It sounds like something in your system is the culprit either it be software or hardware, but I don't think the amd chips has anything to do with it....

That being said I have ran both and right now currently I think the p4's are better when it comes to video editinh and mpeg2, mpeg4 and divx encoding...This may have to do with more and more programs beginning to implement sse2 code in the apps....

Still remember amd is right there in performance and for the 1900+ amd is the better bang for the buck. His 2.4ghz p4 is and should be faster then the 1900+ but you could get a 2200+ and be really tight...

Individual apps will vary and some will want high memory bandwidth the p4 can offer and some like fpu like the amd can offer....

Edit like psycho said and then look at your pc133 which offers no where near the 2.1gb/s of bandwidth the xp can produce...ddr setup can possibly produce 10-15 percent better performance in these kinds of apps. I still think you have other issues of stability. I use to do very nice video editing and encoding with my tbirds 750,1100, and 1400 and they all worked just fine....

how about downloading prime95 and running a torture test?
see if your machine either locks up because of errors or locks up because of heat

try going into bios and disabling pretty much every pci slot and other onboard things (maybe its irq conflict somewhere)

try changing agp4x to 2x (or from 2x to 1x if that is how your's is setup)
