Is it too late for me to goto university?

Here in Canada there is a difference between college and university. College is kind of like high school..and you get a diploma. University gives you a degree & campus life.

I got lazy/distracted in later high school years and because of that, I lack a couple classes to get myself to university. I messed around for the year after high school, and in fall 2002 I started college... I've fast tracked my college course (comp programming) and I'm going to be finished this summer with a 3 year diploma (done in 2).... just in time for university to start in the fall.

What do you guys think? I can get the necessary courses at night school (only 2 ones I really need..algebra and calculus) and apply for university so I can start Fall 2004 (a year from now)... btw our grade/high/college/university schools all start in september (think you americans start in august?)

Hrm... tought decision. I'm not sure my college diploma gives me enough credit that a degree would. Nor do I really feel "ready" to go out into the world as is and live the rest of my life at a day job. Kind of missed out cuz I lived at home for college and never knew many people at college (here in Toronto its tough...too many cultures to get "close").

In addition I've just turned 21, so when I start university I'd be 22. I know thats not as old as some people but I feel I fscked it up bad cuz I'm going to be like 4 years older than everyone else there! 🙁

So hard to decide what to do... 😛 anyone that been there/done that give me a shoutout lol.

21 is FAR from being too old for college. The usual age range in a class is 18-28, you will will fit right in.

In addition my main problem is mostly not knowing what I want to do.

I love programming, especially on my own but I'm not sure how well I'd like working for someone else being a "code monkey" know what I mean?

I was thinking of business administration or something at university level... that way I can use the best of both worlds and offer my employers comps+business paired together cause I think thats a good think just like biomedical and comps are getting big as of late.

I just don't want to spend 4 years(possibly 3 if they look at my college as previous experience) at university and be unhappy in what I'm taking. I know the fun wears off for me fast, even at college its a drag to goto my boring classes when I could be at home, reading comp books learning 10 times faster.

You might feel like you fscked up, but chances are you'll probably be fscking your life up even more if you just quit now. One of my roomates in college was 24 when he started school (he was in the armed forces before) and it wasn't that big of a deal.

I just started college (university) this year, and I'm 20 now. I worked in the HVAC field for a while during and after high school (college) thinking that was a good job with good security. I got laid off, so now I'm in college earning a degree. Sure, I'm an older freshman, but there's nothing wierd about that, there's 40 year olds here that are freshman. I say go, it'll provide you with a brighter, more secure future.

the owner of a nearby Mountain Mikes pizza is in one of my classes. I realized who he was after he introduced himself because sophomore year he tried to hire me when I got my first job ever at subway. nasty character... i hate him.

I did not start my university studies until I was 40.
It was great. There are a certain amount of girls that have a father fixation and I fulfilled that need, you need to wait a few years before going.

Bleep

I'm assuming University is the equivalent to Graduate School here.

You're never to old for education, its how you get an edge...

No, University ( Canadian ) is like American College.
Canadian College is more like American Community College, not highschool.

You should be easily be able to go to Univeristy, you've got your college diploma, so that's more than highschool would have gotten you.

Which University are you thinking of going to?

<--- First year at Waterloo.

Speg:
Ideally Waterloo!

I love that area, my sister goes to Laurier and I love that city. I'm from Barrie actually but moved to Toronto last year for college. I really can't take Toronto for university.... its just not for me. On other hand Waterloo (CompSci) or Laurier (Business Admin) or Guelph (either) I'd love to goto...

Speg: In addition my college GPA is a perfect 4.0 so I hope that maybe I can apply as "mature" student and they won't even look at my high school grades? Or maybe thats not possible... hrm I'll have to call em.
