Is it time to replace slave (minimum) wage with human wages?

So many people are forced to work for what amounts to slave wages, or simply be a slave to welfare. These chains of poverty often cross multiple generations, something needs to be done.

Raising the minimum wage from slave type wage, to human wages, wages fit for a human, will go along way to break this chain. People will earn more money, with the extra money they will buy more goods. They will elevate themselves and their family. Most importantly they will finally be treated like human beings. Business owners will also see a boost in revenue from this extra money being spent. So it will be a boon for all.

Is it time we finally move beyond slave wages, and onto human wages?

Such a thing will cause inflation in the cost of living. That is why we do not simply tackle it head on like that. You'll make and pay more, almost canceling each other out.

Minimum wage is enough to support humans.

It is just not enough to support animals who have 3 bastard kids with 3 different thug baby daddies.

Peg it to inflation, and draw it back to 1968 to get us at about 11 an hour.

Nation won't implode. If mcds prices have to compete with more healthy restaurants then so be it, folks can eat somewhere else because clearly mcds isn't worth it... So the price increases are over stated. If the tip culture has to move to 10% as the norm that's going to be fine too.

A number of those folks receive large amounts of government subsidizes to survive.

It's corporate welfare to their underpaid workforce.

Hookers and Blow wages for all if I'm elected President.

Throw in the $25k sellout money for coming over to the Spender side that I've been lobbying Nick (aka eski) to get for us net taxpayers and you've got a deal! Heck, just the $25k sellout money is fine. $5k paid out in 5 6 month increments and I can buy my own hookers and blow. :D

OP: You can do this already actually. When you go to McD's and order that Fatty Meal, and get done paying McD's, just hand the person taking your order a $5. Do this for every low paid person you meet. Get your friends and family to do this also. Once you've successfully redestributed your own incomes, come back here and let us know how it's working.

Nick?

Are you still clinging to that 'spender' stuff? It was boring when you started it and it hasn't improved. You need a new shtick.

They aren't being underpaid.

You don't deserve to be paid more simply because you are an immoral animal.

I've said before it'd be cheaper to offer $25k a year if you undergo sterilization before you have kids. Would come out less expensive in the long run.

Why is 1968 some kind of magic year that determines what minimum wage should be?

Stupid idea. So we raise minimum wage. Now companies just increase the price of their products to compensate. Now cost of living goes up. Now minimum wage is no longer a living wage again.

Rinse and repeat. There will always be poor people.

There seems to be some confusion in the OP, so let me clarify. Minimum wage: $7.25 per hour. Slave wage: $0.00 per hour. Referring to minimum wage as "slave wages" is patently absurd.

Whats wrong with this nation is right in the thread topic and exactly what you described.

That is why this nation will never pull up their pants and prosper. Because people *ACTUALLY* think minimum wage is equivalent to a "Slave wage" and they are being "oppressed".

I had to laugh in disgust at the teachers union in Madison comparing their struggles for 100K in benefits\year to people in Egypt trying to get out from under the boot of a dictator.

We live in an insulated world. That isnt to say people dont have hard times. But our idea of hard is laughable in many parts of the world.

? Nick Naylor, that's you right?

Are you still clinging to that 'spender' stuff? It was boring when you started it and it hasn't improved. You need a new shtick.

Still clinging to the "spender" stuff? Why not? It is your own ideology that I bought into. Sh1t man I've come over to your Spender side, be happy! I can't believe you think your own ideology boring and needing of a new shtick?! Heck, I just got here! And now you're saying your own ideology won't improve?!?! Doh!

Look, I don't really care where you take it, as long as I get my $5k every 6 month sellout payments. You deliver that and your (well, now, our) side has my continued vote. Forget saving and living within ones means, that's for squares man. I'm wanting to join your base in the worst way, a mere $25k is my price - since borrowing and/or printing money effectively means nothing, I really think this is a small price to pay.

What are you doing here? Get out there and pimp this plan to your Politician buds! The last thread this got brought up in, we had 2-3 other Middle/Righty folks jump onboard too. Look at that vote conversion, all with "free" money!

A human wage to me is about 200k per year.

Sign me up!

Edit-

Make that $1 million per year.

That's a good movie! Why did you bother writing all that though? Like I said, it's boring.

I don't know, why did you bother calling your own Spender ideology boring? It's just weird to do so... Really I just wanted you to know I'm onboard with your/our boring Spender 'shtick' as you put it, but I'm still waiting for the sellout payments to start. You are working on that right?

Maybe if there was a way to somehow gauge the depreciation in value of the dollar from one year to the next and somehow tie minimum wage to that figure, we could ensure that while perhaps they don't live better, maybe at least they don't fall further and further behind. But as far as I know, so such value does not exist.

Nope. Some people are overpaid even with minimum wage. Seriously, when I was a teen and worked as a cashier in 1982 minimum wage was 3$ an hour. I had to enter the price manually, I had to add the tax manually, I had to know what was taxable, I had to bag it and load the carts. Same job today all you do is slide the product trough a scanner that does all the thinking for you. And you have some snot nosed teen bagging your customers shit for tips so really, WTF are you doing that you need more $$$? You want to make more than minimum wage learch a fucking skill and do some actual work. Same with fast food places, all you do is push a button and the machine makes change. I have no sympathy.
