My sister has an old Compaq Presario 7360 that broke a while ago and she needs a PC for work. All she needs to do is some word processing and get on the internet. No need for her to get a whole new system for that.
I think the problem is 1 of 2 things... either the HD is shot or the onboard video is fried. Here's what I have determined thus far:
-I plug in the PC and the green lights on the front of the tower are on so it gets power, so I know it's not the PSU
-The monitor I have plugged into the PC has a LED that's orange when it doesn't get a video signal from the PC, and it turns green when it does get a signal. Well, powering on the PC doesn't change the light from orange to green which means no video signal whatsoever.
1) If the HD was totally shot, should there still be a video signal going to the monitor when I power on the PC?
2) If the video is shot, should I just get her a PCI video card as an alternative solution? The mobo has no slot for AGP, and the current video is integrated directly onto the mobo.
3) Will I need to buy Compaq propietary hardware for either of these problems? If so, I'll probably build her a new rig cuz I am NOT going to deal with that organization in any manner whatsoever.
4) Any chance the CPU is dead?
