Not necessarily cool but definitely useful on a tech site. This being a computer hardware site, I list my computer parts; on a telescope hardware site like Cloudy Nights, I list my astronomy gear. People like to see what others have (shows what can work together) and it makes it easier to contact someone for feedback about a particular CPU/video card/optical tube assembly/eyepiece/etc... Plus when you post about upgrading, people can readily see what you currently have.
 
It's not useful, it's bragging. And the really bad part is no one gives a shit, so you are only bragging to yourself.
 
Just build a computer that runs and you won't have to keep referencing your sig for tech help...
 
It's a computer oriented forum and you can't post images so I don't see it good for much else other than maybe a cynical or snaky comment.

I just have them all listed in a singe docs file that I'm too lazy to keep updated half the time.
 
It's cooler to list the most controversial or questionable specs possible. You know, something to get the haters all wound up again.

I wonder if Ron Jeremy has a computer, and if he does and just happens to post here, would that be the rig he'd give the specs on in his sig? Hmmmm...

Those who don't have it on their signature obviously have little wimpy girly man computers. Probably with Hello Kitty on the side.:colbert:
