Is it silly to want an antec 900 as silent as a p180?

I'm upgrading from a p180 to something with better cooling for my gtx285 that's coming and my sister needs to replace her broken case ; ) and I'm thinking of getting an antec 902.

I have two brand new low speed yate loons to replace the default fans:

1.) Can I have my case as quiet as my p180? Or should I get something else? (My budget is $135usd)

2.) Will they provide enough cooling?

If you get really slow case fans, possibly. All the porous cases are dust-bins and let out tons of noise through whereas the P180 was built for silence. IMO you should keep that P180 and get your sister a cheap Rosewill or something.

If you're feeling adventurous, cut a 120mm hole in your door panel and add a filter to it and you've got plenty of cooling in your P182. 😛

If you want something as quiet as a P182, keep the P182 or grab a P183 or P193 if they're available. And get something else for your syster.

thanks for the replies. Truth is I just want an excuse to change my case lol. But Yea I don't mind the dust, it doesn't get dusty here where I live. Which fans would you recommend to replace? Someone suggested nexus fans at 5v, but I don't know wheres the cheapest to buy.

changing from a p182 to the 900 is EH. waste of money IMO. either get something bigger (better cooling) or smaller (save space) or better quality.

Cooler Master RC-690 is another case you could check out. Or the Antec 300 (smaller-ish), or even the Antec 1200 I guess.

Probably not silly to WANT, but it isn't likely to be possible. The Nine Hundred just has too much openwork.

Nexus fans are basically "hand selected" Yate Loon fans with a dropping resistor. You can get the orange yate loons from jab-tech.com etc. if you like the color...

The p180 series are designed for noise reduction, the Hundred series aren't. You may come close, but probably not equal the quietude of the p180 series.

i agree with zepper here, got a 182 and that case is very quiet. seen my friend's 900 when you turn up the fans on the 900 it's just not quiet but on the other hand you get probably twice air flow in the 900 case, definitely keep the parts cooler. it's a compromise.

Well my gtx285 that's coming probably needs better airflow than my p180? I understand that it will be different than a p180, I'd just like to get as quiet as possible. So Nexus fans are the way to go?

I have no idea how hot a gtx285 is but I have the P182 around my Q9550 OC to 3.6Ghz and that runs very cool at full load. Before giving up a nice case, try playing around with the fans. I have the top fan blowing in and mounted a fan in the front top HDD chamber. That fan blows directly onto my video card.
Unless you just want a new case, wait until you get your card, try it in the case and see if you really do need better cooling.
