is it safe?

Yes? It's not like they're going to put you in a database of suspected pirates just because you didn't have album art...

... or are they?

I ripped all my CD's and used the iTunes store to get covers for every one they had. Apple's covers are awesome quality, definitely the best you'll find online. I don't think Apple cares or they wouldn't have the feature available for non itunes audio files.

that makes sense, but it's still a little scary!

You will be fine. I suggest using google image search to get the art, you can usually find high resolution pics through there

it seems to be. But I'm still scared. I have the pictures for most of them but some won't let me add album art - that's when I get it from iTunes.

Are your music choices that worrisome that you're worried about privacy? 😛

i confused as to what he's asking

He's wondering if, in the course of determining which album art to send him, Apple is going to extract a list of his files and detect somehow that he has acquired some of them in an unscrupulous fashion.

Safe, but there are better programs than iTunes to do this.

what's better? I'm curious, I've tried others and none gave me even close to as high quality covers as iTunes. I run my music thru a HTPC and the covers look amazing even on a big screen TV. I tunes also has the best overall collection, it's not perfect but the other software that d/l's cover art usually gets it from amazon and amazon's quality is horrible.
