Is it safe to use the black FOP32 for SocketA CPUs?

I will have the clip from the FOP32-1, but the heatsink body will be the FOP32.

If you have the clip, I'm pretty sure that it will work. This is because the HS/F is the exact same one, yet the clip is different to make it so it won't crack the AMD cores. Actually, the black one performs slightly better than the aluminum because it is anodized (sp?). However, I guess that AMD did not reccomend the annodized aluminum for the Duron or Tbird. But I think it should be perfectly fine.

Hey, I've had the old FOP32 on my Athlon Tbird 700MHz for months now.

No problemo.

I got a clipless/fanless black FOP32 for $5 :)

I've got a fan for it, and you can get replacement clips from GlobalWin

That's a pretty sweet cooler for $5 :)
