Is it safe to undervolt a CPU?

I'm trying to run my PIII-S 1.4 as cool as possible by lowering the Vcore. I just finished a successful 24hr Prime95 run at 1.3Vcore, default is 1.45.

Will the low voltage hurt the processor at all? Is there any reason I can't run it like this *forever*?

BTW - It does run cooler at lowere Vcore. Prime95 load temps at default Vcore are 46C. Load temps at 1.3Vcore are 40C! I running an SLK-800 with a 7-volted M1A. You can't even hear the fan from more than 18" away.

hehe, I had a compaq machine I was working on in IT. I turned it off a couple times while it was hibrnating, because I could not hear it without looking at the fan or putting my ear within 4 inches.

The only problem I could think of, is instability, since you are running Prime95, you should avoid that problem.
