I think the bulk of your problem is that you decided to eat at Denny's.

we have a winner. i didn't even think of this. Denny's, frankly, is horrible.

All bad nights end at Denny's. But for some reason when you are bombed off your ass on Natty Light and Popov, it tastes so good....

Waffle House.

Tell the server that you want separate checks when you order... then it is easy... but if oyu wait until after they print it, they will have to go back to reopen the check, spilt it off and reprint it. Sometimes they will need a manager key to be able to do that after the original check is printed. That is what makes most servers I have known get pissed off about separate checks.

But if you ask when ordering, it is a breeze.

🙂

I don't think it's rude at all... on another note, my local ihop prohibits the splitting of the check.

Not rude, but some restaurants don't do that, so check ahead.

On further consideration: It is inconsiderate to ask for a split check after the meal, but if you tipped generously, what the heck.

not even a little bit rude.

If a waiter/waitress gripes or rolls the eyes at this request well then calculating the tip is just that much easier!!!!! (don't want to do their job, no tip!)

I think its rude if you have a party of say more then 5 or are splitting it up all weird, like 3 people on their own, and 2 seperate couples and stuff and you don't leave her a slightly higher tip.

Really rude if you ask them when the meal is finished and you're about to leave.

I wouldn't think anything if everything was established before hand like when you're ordering.

In my experiences, generally when my friends and I have split checks, the waiter gets a bigger tip than if we don't split checks. How this works out, I dunno, but it always happens that way.
you guys are rounding up obviously.

Sorry I did yes I was trying to say yes it is rude for you to put a 4 and they put 1 each. Its not rude to split up a check. My bad.

So say the person should get 6$ and I put in 4$ just cause I felt they deserve that from me alone, the others will only put in 1$ each.

Usually we just split it ourselves and each person pays their own share..and if someone wants to pay with a credit card we give that person the cash.

If more than one person wants to pay with a credit card we write down on the back of the check how much to charge on each person's card..

well seeing as how i am a server, its not rude at all to ask, acually i love it when i get split checks because i always get more tip, the only time it might be rude to ask is if there reeeeally busy and you ask them togo a complicated split check, thats about the only time. but other then that your welcomed to be my guest.

if for some reason you don't mention seperate checks up front, and he/she has to split them, leave a little more tip than you normally would

Man you guys get bitched around by your friends alot if your giving a nice tip while everyone else is giving $1. My friends arent stingy, but if they pulled a stunt like that I would be the first to fvck with them about it.

not rude unless you wait until they bring you the bill to ask them to do it.

either they split the check or they get a stack of credit cards and are told to figure it out. It takes thirty seconds to split a ticket where each person had one or two items.
