Is it reasonable to run a 600Mz celeron at 900 Mz?

that sounds very reasonable... i remember the hot thing being taking 566s to around 850 if my memory serves me correctly so going from 600 to 900 sounds reasonable b/c i know some of the 566s went higher than 900. In general some of the cores should also be able to do around 1000 b/c it was the exact same core as the p3 (which went to 1000 on that on that core version - i don't know your exact revision tho) with half of the l2 cash disabled...

if its stable, sure. the chip is practically worthless now anyways.

you can get a frys m/b cpu combo for about 70 bux that can wipe the floor with even the 900mhz celly, so don't spend any money on it.
 
When the second generation Celerons first came out I was running a 566 at 952. It ran great until the day I replaced with with a P3 700 @ 966.

i wasn't as lucky, my two 566 only went up to 850.
i replaced em with 1.1ghz celly gen 3 @ 1.5ghz on the same m/bs 🙂

If it runs stable, Then sure, Use it.. You are lucky that you got that 600 up to 900. Not a whole lot of the 600's were able to make it to 900. Back then, It was easier to get the 566 to run at 850 no problem. In fact, I have one running at 850 in my daughter's machine right now.

 
I had a 600 @ 900 for awhile, though it took 2v to get it stable (1.5v stock) Then I chipped the core

I'm SOOO happy to see IHS on everything intel and the new AMDs.
 
The thing is running stable with a Stock Intel HSF 2667 rpm.
9 x 100.
Even 30 minutes of Prime95 hasn't resulted in any errors.
 
Yep, that's the standard 66->100 FSB o/c. Been doing that since the days of the 300A+BH6 combo. 😉

Edit - Sheesh, man up on the stability testing. Prime95 in the background, SETI@Home in the tray, and 3DMark to tax your video. Then loop that for a day.

sure it's reasonable.... the gains you get will be practically nothing as that cheap has 0 horespower to begin with... but if it's stable, it might bring a 10% gain at best 😛

You're joking, right? The 66MHz FSB is one of the major chokepoints of the old Celerons. Clocking up to 100 and running sync with the RAM will do him wonders.

They still suck, but not any worse than a regular P3. 🙂

yeah the Tualerons are a lot better, I'll give them that.
the P4 Celerons are no better than the others also though.. the the higher in GHz they go, the worse the performance ratio is!

no joke. even a 50 dollar duron combo from frys running off scummy sdram would rape the celly

I agree but some people are so D$mn cheap they won't even go for a $110 CPU-Motherboard-Fan upgrade. I hate working with people like that. So I just overclocked their crappy computer and said they have a 900 Celery now.
If it burns up who gives a hoot. It's a POS PC Chips mobo anyway...!

It does seem a bit snappier at 900 vs 600 though but is still obviously a dog.

If it's stable and free, then it's worth it.

I was running a 566 @ 850 for 2 years (and a 300 @ 450 for 3 years before that) in a slotket until my Abit BH6 let all the magic smoke out of its capacitors and died last May.
